As many of you know, last week was my spring break and I was so fortunate to have been able to take a weekend trip with my mom and sister to New York City. After seeing countless travel diaries from my favorite bloggers and YouTubers I decided, why not make one myself?!
Thursday was the final day of school before spring break at my school, however, Madison and I left early in order to make our way to the city. Unfortunately, the weather was absolutely horrible with tornado warnings, rain like you would not believe, and lots of hail. Although, despite the minor setback we made it to the city and checked into our hotel all in one piece.

On Friday morning, we woke up early to head out and see the Cathedral. It was huge and so beautiful in not only the inside but the outside as well. We lit a candle for a loved one that had passed and then made our way to a local restaurant to get what my mom calls a ‘real’ bagel. She was right, it definitely beat the six pack of Thomas blueberry bagels I eat each morning before heading off to school. We then walked around for a while, stopping at a few stores, my personal favorite: Old Navy. By then it was about time to start heading to the main reason for the trip, the Fashion Institute of Technology for my very first college visit. We watched a slide show, were given a tour and even stopped at the bookstore where I bought a white FIT quarter zip in remembrance of my very first college visit and let’s be real because it was totally adorable. Honestly, the school wasn’t much of what I had pictured, yet was still nothing short of amazing. I got the vibe that it was not like many other colleges and that you become very independent and would dive straight into your career. However, none of this sounds extremely unappealing to me and the opportunities after college sound absolutely unreal. I am very pleased with how my visit went and will definitely consider keeping FIT on my applying list. After my visit, we ventured out to find what my mom also calls a ‘real’ piece of New York pizza. Again, she was right. (no surprise there, moms are always right!!) The pizza was amazing. We wandered around going in and out of thrift stores, vintage shops, and various stores before making our way to dinner with my two cousins. Afterward, we went home and because of our roughly ten-mile walk that day, slept like babies.

On Saturday, we got an early start and headed to Central Park to walk around because Madison and I had never been. Afterward, we walked around some more, stopping in a few stores and shopping around before heading back to our hotel to check out. We then went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch plus got the best milkshakes. We went to the flea market, made our way to Times Square, and went to more thrift stores where I, unfortunately, didn’t find anything once again. Our feet felt like they were about ready to fall off at this point so we grabbed a few desserts from Magnolia’s Bakery and sat down for a while before wandering around some more and getting ready to head back home. In case you were curuious, we walked about ten miles that day as well.

Let’s just say we weren’t exactly eager to move the day after, our feet were absolutely killing us at the end of the short trip. Although, a very special shout out goes to my white slip-on Vans; I’m certain that they were the best shoe choice for this trip. And let’s be real… what shoe is comfortable after the tenth mile?! None the less I had the best girls weekend and made memories that will always hold a special place in my heart.
For my NYC regulars, what places would you recommend checking out for the next time I find myself in the city?! Let me know in the comments along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. I hope you all are doing well and enjoyed today’s post! Sending lots of love your way. With love, McKenz.

Lol, thanks girl!
Great post, yet again! Looks like a great trip xx.
Thanks so much, Kali! Happy Monday 🙂
Your trip looked like so much fun! You should consider visiting Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI! I go here and absolutely love it. You get the city campus feel in downtown Providence, as well as a traditional campus feel which is on the water. My major is fashion merchandising and retail marketing. I looked at FIT too but chose here because they have a field hockey team as well as many others! Figured i’d let ya know 🙂
Omg you have no idea how much I appreciate this comment! I will be sure to check it out, thank you so much! Happy Monday (-:
