Oh boy, it has been a long time coming (two and a half weeks…)! I didn’t intend on having this get ready with me being so long overdue but I was waiting to receive all the perfect pictures taken by the incredibly talented Garrett Brown – I am so beyond thankful for him photographing such a special day for me. Any-who, without further ado, let’s hop right in and see how I got ready for my junior Prom!
Starting off with the makeup simply because it was the first thing I wanted to check off my list. Before getting started I knew I wanted a pretty standard face for me and a coppery/bronze eye with a glossy lip! I experimented as I went, avoided false lashes, and kept things pretty relaxed. Overall, I’m suer pleased with how it turned out.
I began by priming my face with the Wet N Wild Photo Focus Primer. I’ve just recently started using this and have loved it so much. I find that it keeps my makeup looking supernatural and helps it stay in place throughout the day. Because I had gotten a spray tan for the special day, my classic Maybelline Fit Me just wasn’t the perfect match so I reached for the Wet N Wild Photo Focus Foundation. I was so glad I did; it wore beautifully, did not budge, and the coverage on this drugstore option is insane!
To set the face I went in with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, as it’s for sure my go-to. To brighten up those under-eye circles I used the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and buffed this into my skin. I then went ahead and set the under-eyes with the banana powder from the Anastasia Contour Kit to keep from creasing throughout the evening.
I skipped ahead and transitioned over to the eyes. Beginning with the Urban Decay Primer Potion, I worked this onto the lids and then layered my classic Maybelline Color Tattoo in the shade ‘Barely Branded’ over top to act as the perfect base.
I kept things pretty basic for the eyeshadow. I started by applying the shade ‘Bootycall’ from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette all over my lid. I then went ahead and took the shade ‘Salted Carmel‘ from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and blended this into my crease. I wanted this orangish-brown to be the basis of my crease so I spent time making sure that this provided definition without being too harsh. To add a pop of color to the lids I reached back into my Naked 2 and grabbed the shade ‘Half Baked‘. To add just a tiny bit of depth to the look I went with ‘Milk Chocolate’ from my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. That just about wraps up the eyeshadow.
I then went ahead and carved out my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow and generously filled them in, as I did not have time to get them waxed before the dance they def needed a little extra loving.
For blush, I used the peach shade from my Elf Blush palette to brighten up the apples of my cheeks and add a little pop of color. I then contoured my temples, cheekbones, and nose using the lightest shade in my Anastasia Contour Kit. I made sure to blend while still leaving enough definition so I wouldn’t look super washed out while taking pictures throughout the night.
Mascara was my next battle at this point I chose not to wear falsies for Prom because I feel that sometimes they overpower the makeup look too much and because I was going for a calmer, more nature-esque vibe, I held off on them. However, I did apply generous coats of the Maybelline Cat Eyes Mascara to my upper and lower lashes as well as one swipe of the Maybelline Great Lash to finish the eyes off.
For highlighter, I used the Wet N Wild Highlighter in the shade ‘Golden Flower Crown’ (seriously the most perfect name ever for the occasion!) and applied this to the high points of my face, brow bone, inner corner, cupids bow, and the tip of my nose. Anywhere that could glow I wanted glowing, lol!
I was rather unsure of what to do with my lip color so I went with a classic of mine. The Buxom Lip Pencil in the shade ‘Hush Hush’ with one of their creamy nude lipsticks popped right over top. I needed a little bit of gloss/glow to top off the look so I reached for the Wet N Wild Liquid Catsuit in ‘Satin Sheets‘.
And that’s a wrap for the makeup. A few sprits of the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray finished me off and I was left feeling like a glowing goddess.
My Prom was on a Friday night and because I know my hair curls best when it’s not super clean, I washed it Thursday night and then curled it Friday morning for school. This way my natural hair would be tamed and I could easily recurl it into something that would look ten times better yet would actually be able to hold itself.
Therefore, I went ahead and did just that! Using a 1 1/2” barrel I curled every strand of my hair, topping it off with the Got 2b Glued Freezeblast Hairspray.
My main reason for not getting my hair done at the salon and for keeping it so simple was because I intended on wearing an all baby’s breath flower crown. It was so stunning and everything I had imagined- not too much but just enough to tie my whole look together.
My mom helped secure it onto my head using bobby pins and I was good to go for the night!
Agh, for the big reveal now! I kept my dress a secret from you guys simply because I had wanted it to be a surprise for the big night. I went with something simple- a green halter neck dress from Lulu’s. It was a super inexpensive option compared to many prom dresses and it fit like an absolute glove! (For reference I am 5’2” and ordered the XS)
I went with a simple gold pair of block heels from Chinese Laundry that I had prior to the dance. They were the perfect height and matched my jewelry beautifully!
If you’ve been around for a while, you would know that I do not have my ears pierced (I know, I know!) but I did stop by Icing a few weeks ago to pick up a pair of clip-ons for the night. I loved them and have been wearing them ever since. The rest of my jewelry consisted of a few gold Forever 21 rings and a cuff from Sugarfix at Target.
Oh, and of course my beautiful corsage was the perfect finishing touch but you’ll catch that later on!
a few more of the stunning pictures GB took—too good not to share!
The dark green with the flower crown and gold accents was everything I had envisioned and I was so pleased with the overall look! I cannot thank Garrett enough for capturing these moments for me; it felt so good to feel so comfortable and confident in my own sin for the night.
Now for the moment, you all have been begging for, more pictures. I intended on this post going up much earlier, but I refrained from posting prom pictures until this post went up so you could see them all at once. I cannot get enough of them!
