Backpacks are tricky, to say the least. Finding something that works for you and your needs but is still (somewhat) pleasing to look at can be difficult at times. Luckily, today I’m breaking down four different backpacks from three different brands in hopes to ease some of the struggles that come with choosing a style that is fit for you. I hope you enjoy and find this post helpful in some way.

This particular style of backpack is super popular where I live and for obvious reasons. It’s a rather sporty backpack yet they have tons of cute color options for the trendy ladies like myself! I bought this backpack before my freshman year of high school and used it through my junior year. Obviously after lugging it around for three years, it received some wear and tear but for the most part, the backpack held up super nice and still remains usable.
However, for my senior year, I did purchase a new one. I got this one and since I’ve purchased my first style they have made some changes to the backpack itself. For one thing, it’s deeper now, making it the biggest bag out of the four. The size is one of the reasons I use this backpack. With all the AP courses I take and not using a locker at school, I have lots of notebooks, folders, and such that are kept in my backpack at all times. This one fits it all and they’ve added an additional laptop pocket.
There are also two additional pockets that I utilize for my lunch box, keys, phone, etc. and two mesh pockets on the side for a reusable water bottle. If you’re looking for a high-quality backpack that will last you years, check this one out! It is without a doubt the most practical for my high school experience.
I’ll be going into more detail on this backpack when I post my What’s In My Backpack post in just a few days!
You probably recognize this backpack from previous blog posts here on StyledbyMcKenz and that is because I adore this one and used it for traveling almost all summer long. As opposed to the North Face backpack, this one is a cotton blend making the straps much softer and the overall backpack a lot less ‘outdoorsy’ when looking at it.
I love this backpack as it has all of the special anti-theft features as well as lots of little compartments. This backpack is definitely better if you go to a school where you have a locker where you can switch in and out books or are not carrying your lunchbox in your bag simply because it is a lot smaller than the North Face. It is more fit for just a couple books and a few journals.
I would imagine this backpack being an awesome option for college or study abroad students as well. Especially because they are only going to a few classes a day and there is a super nice laptop pocket in this one that is easily accessible.
I’ve actually never used this backpack for schooling purposes but I do use it for cheer so I wanted to throw it in as another comparable option. I love this backpack as it is super lightweight, in fact, it is definitely the lightest of all the ones I mentioned today/ The straps on it are super nice which makes the weight of your bag a little more tolerable.
One of the reasons I love this backpack is because of the front pockets. There are a few that are so easily accessible and are perfect for all those backpack necessities that don’t necessarily need to be by your school supplies.
Like I said I’ve never used this for school but I know just from having it that it is bigger than the Travel On but smaller than the North Face. Although it is a deep backpack, it is not super wide which again leads me to believe it’s good for someone who only carries a few classes or has fewer books and such.
For sports, I think this bag is awesome. I am able to fit two pairs of shoes, a jacket, and a change of clothes in here easily. As well as two waters in the side compartments, snacks, phone accessories, and skincare necessities in the front pockets. I love having this for cheer rather than a drawstring bag as it has a shape to it, and rather than a duffle bag because it’s so much easier to carry around.
This backpack definitely gets you the most for your money. It’s similar in size to the North Face backpack; it’s just the slightest bit smaller. There are endless pockets in this one and there is a large space for books, folders, etc. as well as a super nice laptop compartment.
The reason this one is such a good option is that it fits just as much as the North Face but has the safety features of a Travel On bag. This too has RFID blocking features, locking zippers, and slash resistant straps. The color is super cute and it’s definitely on the trendier side when it comes to backpacks.
If you’re studying abroad I would highly recommend this bag!
With all of that being said, I hope I answered some of your questions about the different styles of backpacks out there. I know it can be hard finding one that works for you but with a little prior knowledge and some time spent researching, you are sure to find the perfect backpack for you.
