I’ve mentioned a few times here and there that as of this year, one of my good friends Ashley and I, are Co-Presidents of our school’s Fashion Club. We were Vice Presidents of the club last year and fortunately, had the torch passed down to us for the 2018-2019 school year.
On Wednesday, we had our first meeting of the school year and it was such a success! As Senior year goes on, I’m really trying to be conscientious about sharing my day-to-day activities with you! Therefore, Fashion Club fits right into the mix.
I’ve decided that a series called ‘Fashion Club Friday’ is the perfect addition to the blog. It shows you a glimpse into my school life, extracurriculars, and of course the latest talk when it comes to clothing! Our club meets every other Wednesday, therefore, there will be a new installment of this series just a few times a month.
I hope you are as excited as I am; let’s dive right into our first meeting of the school year!
Ashley and I spent a lot of time planning for the first meeting. We wanted it to be a fun, relaxed setting as most meetings were the last few years. We were sort of worried about getting girls (and guys!) to show up, as a majority of last year’s members were Seniors. However, we lucked out and had a lot of new, friendly faces added to the mix.
For the first meeting, we decided to start off with a slideshow showcasing what Fashion Club is all about and our different meeting ideas, activities, and events throughout the school year. Afterward, we went around the room and had everyone introduce themselves, stating their name, grade, and one piece of clothing they couldn’t live without. This was a fun way to generate easy dialogue and introduce everyone to one another. We then participated in the main activity which was a timed game and closed out the meeting with awarding prizes and snapping a few pictures.
It was shorter than we had imagined but we were just happy that the meeting went smoothly! It was a nice introductory meeting to kick off the year.
For the main activity, we had everyone pair up with a partner or group of three in some circumstances. We gave everyone a half sheet of poster and a marker. After setting a timer for three minutes, we challenged each group to generate as many thoughts as possible that came to mind when they heard the word ‘fashion’.
We wanted to pick something easier and relaxed for the first meeting and this did just that. It gave the members creative freedom and got them really thinking about clothing and everything that pertains to it.
Maddie and Ashley were our first two winners with a total of 77 items listed in three minutes! They were able to choose from our prizes. A third and fourth place were given to other girls in a separate group.
For prizes, they were able to choose from a cute fall tee from Hunter&Honey, an adorable notebook, a fun interactive journal, and candy! These were a hit and I can’t wait to find Halloween themed prizes for our next meeting.
Overall, I am super pleased with how our first meeting turned out. I’m relieved that people came and am already looking forward to our next meeting which will be all about fall fashion forecasting + trends. Plus, I was able to meet lots of new faces who I know will be an awesome addition to the club!
Did you enjoy hearing more about Fashion Club/would you be interested in seeing this as a regular series on the blog?! I want to hear all your thoughts below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Thanks so much for stopping by; hope you’re having an awesome Friday!
With love, McKenz
