Hey, everyone and welcome back to StyledbyMcKenz! In September I introduced a new series to you called Dressing Room Diaries. You guys love my hauls, but I decided, wouldn’t it be fun to take you around to my favorite stores from time to time and share with you my full shopping experience?!
With a little extra time on my hand last weekend, I headed to TJ Maxx in hopes to find something that would be content worthy. Sure enough, while I was strolling, I decided now would be the perfect time to do another installation of my Dressing Room Diaries series! Today I’m sharing everything I brought into the dressing room, what I tried on, and a few outfit ideas. It’s an awkward time in retail stores – still winter wear and yet spring styles are starting to roll in but I’m covering it all today. I’m super excited about this post and my picks so I hope you enjoy!
Blush hues were everywhere during this shopping trip. I have a feeling that we’re going to be seeing pink a little more than usual this spring and I cannot say I’m mad about it. Apart from sweaters and tank tops, I saw this color so much across the activewear section which made me so excited!
These leggings are from the brand 90 Degree By Reflex, which if you know me, is one of my favorite brands. The material and quality of their stuff is unmatched. I was so excited to find a pale pink pair of cropped leggings. Another favorite brand of mine is Yogalicious. I’ve loved their stuff long before every collaborating with the brand which made me even more excited when I found this adorable, super soft tank top. It’s got an open back and a high neck making me love it even more.
Let’s be real, even though stores are starting to put out spring styles, we’ve got a few months of sweater weather ahead of us. I’ve seen hooded cardigans plenty of times before but never a hooded sweater. I was thrilled when I saw this.
It had a long slouchy hood and the cutest flared sleeves. The color of this is super cute too – a mauve with a bit of purple in it. I think this would be the cutest sweater with a pair of jeans and mules for that winter to spring transition period.
I used to hate anything classified as a ‘midi’. For some reason this cut used to give me Little House On The Prairie vibes but as I’ve gotten older and seen the trend evolve, I’ve come to really love it. There’s something so modest and feminine about this style.
This adorable cargo inspired mustard dress was one of my favorites. I love how simple this dress was and paired with a fun pair of slides you’ve got an outfit all in one for the springtime. This striped jumpsuit was one of my favorite pieces I tried on. Not only was it super comfortable and easy to wear, but the cropped coulotte style of the pants would be the perfect pairing with lace up sandals or a baby block heel – my go-to shoe styles! You could easily layer a cardigan over this as well.
I’m a huge fan of activewear and it’s no secret. Despite not being the most active person, there’s nothing I love more than a cozy pullover or cute quarter zip to pair with some trendy leggings.
I loved this blue Yogalicious pullover. I’m wearing a Large here because it was the only size they had left and I would have obviously sized down but I’m so happy I tried this on. The thumb holes were a nice touch and the zippered neckline makes it so you can have a collar or a mock neck – whichever you happen to be feeling. I don’t typically reach for blue but this one was hard to resist. I also tried on the cutest zip up. These are my favorite with a sports bra underneath for an easy outfit. This color was so gorgeous and I loved the mesh detailing.
I’m a firm believer in a denim skirt. If you don’t have one, it’s time to invest in one. However this one is hardly an investment at only $6.99. Yep, you read that right. It has the cutest ring zipper which I’ve been seeing everywhere as a spring trend teaser. Plus the patchwork inspired pockets were a fun take on two toned denim.
For the spring months I love a denim skirt to start showing a little leg. I’d typically pair one with a tucked in turtleneck and a pair of booties. However, I couldn’t resist trying on this mustard bodysuit which made me miss summer even more. I didn’t love the fit of it but the style was everywhere in the store so I decided to give it a go.
According to fashion bloggers and everyone alike, leopard is a neutral. And I cannot say I’m mad about it.
TJ Maxx had a lot of options this trip but this jacket caught my eye. It wasn’t necessarily an outerwear piece, more of a sweatshirt material but with the cut of a bomber. Paired with a fun ringer tee, jeans, and some white slip on Vans I think this piece could be so bomb!
Mesh is in! I know we’ve seen it in our activewear styles over the last couple of years but incorporating tends into workout wear is clearly on the rise. I love a little mesh action and was not disappointed to see so many mesh sides. Not to mention, pockets are popping up on all sorts of leggings. Count me in!
I couldn’t resist trying on this black zip up from 90 Degree. It has the cutest mesh cut out in the back and the sleeves had a line of mesh as well. I was so impressed with the quality of this at a price of only $16.99. Their stuff truly cannot be beat!
Of course, spring temperatures aren’t showing their faces anytime soon so I did try on my fair share of sweaters. I couldn’t help myself despite my closet not being able to house anymore.
This pink sweater was so soft! I’m not sure what this material is called but I saw it everywhere. It looks super plush, almost like velvet and has a certain feeling to it that definitely isn’t your typical knit. I loved this color as per usual. I couldn’t resist trying on the color blocked sweater either. Bright colors and stripes are my weakness, especially when paired with a pair of go-go boots and statement earrings.
More sweaters, of course!
Can we talk about how fabulous that sweater on the left is?! I mean come on! A turtleneck plus faux fur pockets. This sweater was made for me and I loved seeing the statement pockets across various different sweaters throughout my shopping trip. These balloon sleeves have my heart. I cannot help it ; I’m a total sucker for a statement sleeve.
The last piece I saw so many of were simple workout tees. I’m typically a tank top girl but figured I’d give the tees a go and I was pleasantly surprised.
Not only did they have fun mesh necklines but cute little cut outs like this light purple one were present throughout most of the tees I saw. I thought this was such a fun accent to your typical workout tee!
A huge shout out to TJ Maxx for upping their activewear game and for having so many cute styles this time around! I loved unleashing my inner #maxxinista for today’s post. What styles have you been eyeing on your latest shopping trips?! I’d love to hear below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Happy shopping friends!
With love, McKenz
