The only thing I hate more than uploading a monthly favorites post late is not writing one at all. Hence the reason I’m sitting here ten days into the month of June finally recapping the month of May. If you keep reading you’ll learn why this post is so delayed… treating this months favorites as a little bit of a life update too.
The sun finally decided to shine this month and boy did it feel good. With school winding down I took this as my chance to wear all of my favorite outfits to school while I still had the chance. Dressing for school is my favorite thing in the world and I’m sad knowing that college may change my daily style. I wore tons of yellow as we closed out baseball season, lots of matching sets, and fun earrings. However, my favorite clothing piece of the month has to go to both of the prom dresses I wore! These beauties deserved all of the love and got me endless compliments from strangers.
This month brought my last weeks of school and a couple weeks of exams. I took these half testing days as an opportunity to wear all of my favorite workout sets to school. Target, Yogalicious, and Lilybod have my favorite pieces at the moment. I’ve had these white Adidas sneakers for years but found myself reaching for them quite often this past month. They were the perfect simple yet comfortable shoe.
You all know that I love getting spray tans for special occasions or before important photoshoots. I typically advertise for my local hair salon but this month I was actually given the opportunity to work for the spray tan company itself, Mystic Tan! Although I tan super easily, a safe sunless tan did just the trick before prom and graduation. I cannot say enough good things about their booth. If you have a Mystic Tan salon near you, I highly recommend trying them out.
My only other beauty favorite for the month is the Drunk Elephant Protini™ Polypeptide Moisturizer. I picked this up in the middle of the month at my local Sephora as the free birthday gift and have loved it. It’s super thick and does just the trick.
This month I only watched one short show and that was What If. My mom recommended it to me and it was super good. If you’re into mystery type shows, you’d love this. I didn’t have too much time for TV in May because of exams so when I found spare time I tended to gravitate towards YouTube. Some of my favorite people to watch are Danielle Carolan, Maggie Macdonald, Gretchen Geraghty, and Brooke Miccio.
Truthfully I didn’t keep up with my habits or my posting schedule this month but I sort of expected that. This month was chaos for me and letting the blog take the back burner was a reality. However, I focused on Instagram a lot more this month and it paid off a bit. I finally reached 4.8K which is putting me closer to my end of summer goal! Not the greatest month but not the worst month as far as progress goes. There’s always June to make up for it!
Well, since we’re already ten days into June I’ll give you a little bit of an update. I clearly haven’t been on my A game: spoiler. But I decided to take a week off to really enjoy myself and relax while on vacation. Because I didn’t go with my family, it was truly “me” time. I’m ready to hit the ground running and have tons of summer clothing collaborations lined up for the upcoming weeks. A few other goals for the month of June are to reach 5K on Instagram and upload my first VLOG to YouTube with my new camera.
For those who don’t know, all of my photos are shot on a Nikon D7000 that is my moms. With me moving to Ohio for college in just a couple of months, my family knew that it was time for me to get my own camera. As a combined 18th birthday + graduation gift I got the Nikon D5600. It’s user-friendly for whoever will end up taking my photos next year, is perfect for filming sit down videos, and has a couple of different lenses. I got a ring light and a microphone to go with! Bare with me as Madison and I try to get comfortable with the new camera over the next couple of weeks. I also made my first ever “big girl” purchase last week. I finally bit the bullet and got the Canon G7X so that I have a vlog camera to go everywhere with me. Although a little part of me winced when spending that amount of money, I know that this will only be an investment in my future career and am so excited to capture these next months on camera.
Like I mentioned earlier, this month was pure chaos. The first two weeks of May I wrapped up my last official days of high school and said goodbye to baseball season as we fell short in the playoffs. The following weeks were consumed by lots of studying and five AP exams! Summer baseball also started and all of my college guys came home. My heart felt so full again. Connor and I went to my Senior prom together and had an absolute blast. We made a dress change in the middle of the evening which was loads of fun and presented us with tons of compliments from strangers. A week later was my last day of high school and I found myself saying so many goodbyes! I turned 18 on the 28th and graduated just a few days later.
I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been an emotional month. There have been so many lasts but with lasts always come firsts. Thank you so much to all of the people who messaged me on graduation day‚ there were so many of you who said they feel like they have watched me grow up through the blog/Instagram and it has hit me that little freshman StyledbyMcKenz is no longer.
Looking forward to June even though we’re already 1/3 of the way through. Spoiler: it’s been pretty good so far. Sorry for the delay in this month’s favorites. I’ll catch you guys soon. Thanks for making me feel loved this month and all the ones in between!
With love, McKenz
