Fashion Design and Merchandising are the largest programs here at Kent State. With Kent being the number four fashion program in the United States, there are thousands of fashion students here. I’d be lying if I said I don’t see some of the coolest, most unique trends being worn each day. It’s really cool being exposed to so many different styles here at school. Recently, I’ve found myself really enjoying edgier fashion. It’s not something I’ve ever been big on, and truthfully, I’ll always be a girly girl but experimenting and styling some”edgier” outfits last week was a fun step out of my comfort zone.
I’ve always loved a good black on black combination but something about this one is so different than my usual. I picked up this long sleeve bodysuit from Romwe a few weeks ago and wear it at least once a week. It is crazy soft and the kind of basic that everyone needs in their wardrobe, regardless of their personal style. I paired it with this adorable utility skirt. I’ll be honest, when my roommate Lauren picked this skirt out I was really on the fence about it but upon receiving and styling it— I’m in love. Utility/cargo styles are so in right now and with a fun seat belt inspired buckle, this skirt is far different than anything else I own. I paired it with these chunky black SheIn booties that I cannot stop wearing. They are so comfy and suit several different styles.

I’ve never been a big band tee kind of girl, mostly because they don’t make cute trendy country band tees, lol. But my roommate Emma is obsessed with them so when asking her what to pair with the bottom half of my outfit, she suggested I borrow this one and I love it! I’d be lying if I said I was a Rolling Stones fan but I love the look of this knotted tee. These pants were another big step out of my comfort zone but Lauren insisted and I’m so glad she did. Not only do these utility joggers fit like a glove but they are super flattering on your waist too. I love the fun metal chain belt that comes with them and that although these feel like sweatpants, they look super cool on. I’m wearing those same booties from before for a little height and some gold hoops to finish off the look.

White chunky sneakers were another bandwagon I never thought I’d hop on but I took the plunge a few weeks ago and can honestly say I’ve been sporting my new white kicks more than I’d like to admit. This pair from SheIn is so comfortable and they are super lightweight too. These windbreaker pants are a style I’ve been seeing a lot around campus and on my Instagram feed recently. I couldn’t resist trying them out when I saw them on Romwe’s site. I’m not sure they scream me but I think they look really cute with a simple white crop top and my white sneaks. Such an easy outfit idea that’s comfy but still looks well thought out.

I don’t know guys… I really enjoyed this blog post! It was the most fun I’ve had compiling outfits and shooting looks in a long time! Although these may not be outfit ideas I’m reaching for on an everyday basis, it was certainly fun to share some outfits that were out of my comfort zone with you today.
Let me know what you think of these outfit ideas in the comments below! I really want to hear your feedback on these edgier outfits. Maybe I’ll try something super feminine or monochromatic next, since those are two other trends I’ve been seeing a lot of here. I’ll keep you posted! Enjoy your Monday.
With love, McKenz
