Truthfully, I’m feeling a little guilty that we’re already thirteen days into the year and we haven’t talked 2020 goals yet but I felt that “better late than never” was a good motto. Plus, I figured there was no better time to share my goals with you than accompanied by some cute new workout wear.
I know all too well, that most people add “get more fit”, “lead a healthier lifestyle”, or “make it to the gym 3x a week” type goals to their resolutions list. What better thing to get you motivated than some cute new gear to do it in? I have been wearing 90 Degree By Reflex for years now and they are truly my go-to brand. I swear by their stuff; not only are they awesome quality but they are super affordable too.
Keep Up With The Routine
I knew I wouldn’t work out while I was at home for winter break but now that I’m back at school, today will be my first day back in the gym. I don’t have a set fitness goal but I do want to keep up with the same routine I was in the first semester. I didn’t force myself to go to the gym every day but I typically made it six times a week. I found that I loved doing some form of exercise even if it wasn’t anything super intense. It eased my stress, got my body going, and was the perfect excuse to sit on Instagram and upload my photo each day.
Not to mention, my workout wear selection is far too large not to be going to the gym. I’ve got so many cute sets that I can’t wait to wear this week.
This neon set is my favorite kind of combo for the gym. I’m all about something color coordinated. The leggings I’m wearing are the “Squatproof” Interlink Hi Rise Ankle fit with neon trim. I love that these are a business in the front party in the back type pant. The seamless racerback sports bra matches the pant’s piping perfectly. It’s super comfortable and makes you look extra tan. I prefer a zip-up with matching sets so I grabbed this full-zip jacket with mesh detailing along the back. This is my go-to gym outfit.

Finish The Semesters Strong
My first semester of school was awesome. I finished with a 3.9 GPA, got super involved, joined a sorority, made some awesome friends, and managed to keep working on StyledbyMcKenz 30+ hours a week. It was incredibly rewarding and although balancing it all was tough at times, it was so worth it. Today is the first day of my spring semester and I’m hoping it goes as well as the fall! It’s crazy to think that in 2020 I will have also finished my first semester of sophomore year. I hope balancing it all continues to be manageable throughout the rest of the year.
Of course, because I am in Ohio for college, it gets super chilly here. 90 Degree By Reflex just recently came out with a Cold Gear line that is a lifesaver if you’re in the same boat as me. These fleece-lined leggings are perfect if you’re someone who likes to dress down for class. They are so warm, especially when paired with a fleece hoodie like this one. This is great to layer over a sports bra as you walk to the gym or for staying warm on your way to class. I only have classes three days a week this semester which means I’ll have a good excuse to wear comfy clothes most of the week!
Journal More
I’ve journaled since I was in elementary school and it’s one of my favorite habits. I love getting to look back and watch my growth over the years. I’ll be honest, I’ve neglected this habit more than I’d like to admit these last six months and it’s something I really want to make an effort at in 2020. I know I will thank myself when I look back on these moments plus it is such an anxiety reliever for me.
Pay Off My Student Loans
Within the last few months, I have seen such a shift in money transparency on the internet. I love seeing how open and educational YouTubers, bloggers, and podcasters are getting about personal finance. I’m not one to throw my hat in the ring regarding budgeting tips but it is really important to me that I pay off my student loans each semester. Nobody wants to deal with that crazy interest post-college. As annoying as it is to pay now, I know this will benefit me in the long run.
Hit 10K On Instagram
This goal is huge for me. I did the math at the beginning of the year and hitting 10K on Insta by the end of the year would mean gaining roughly 315 followers a month. That’s pretty unheard of for me but I need to make this one happen. 10K opens up so many doors for influencers and hitting this goal would be huge for me.
I have a few habits I think will help me in this realm. For starters, I want to post one giveaway a month. Whether it be a brand-sponsored giveaway, me teaming up with some friends, or giving away some of my favorite products, giving back to my followers is something I want to do more of. I also want to start being more active on my stories. I’ve been really good about this my last few months but things like Try-On Tuesdays sharing new pieces from a specific brand, Sunday Outfit Recaps sharing what I wore each week, and Sale Saturdays, where I share some of my favorite pieces that are currently on sale, would create a more interactive experience for my followers and would (hopefully) help boost sales too! I have a world of growth waiting to happen on this platform— it’s up to me now!
Up My Viewers
Last year I had record-breaking blog views— more than quadrupling my views in 2019 alone. And while this was great and I hope to experience the same amount of views, if not more, my visitors themselves were not as high as they could be. I would love to reach even more people and get some fresh faces viewing the blog. I think posting more college content and sharing some guides for college freshman will surely help this situation out.
Grow My YouTube
It’s hard to set a set number for this goal. I started my YouTube channel three years ago but it wasn’t until I started consistently uploading that I gained almost 1,00 subscribers in six months. Truthfully, I’m still really new to the YouTube game, learning the algorithm and the whole YouTube world, in general, has been tricky for me.
It’s something I want to work on this year. Not only do I hope to gain a few thousand more subscribers but I want to gain some more editing skills and delve into more videography. I think filming is so fun and it’s a different side of creativity that I haven’t dabbled into enough.
Attend My first NYFW
As most of you know by now, I will be headed to New York City in a little less than a month for my first-ever New York Fashion Week. I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity. This has been a dream of mine for years and to watch it come to life is going to be so special for me.
I’m currently amid pitching designers, hotels, brands and more to make my experience the best it can be. If you’re a blogger who lives in NYC/will be attending please let me know! I would love the chance to finally meet some of my blog friends.
Collab With More Brands I’m Passionate About
Last year I had a killer year, partnering with over 50 different companies on a variety of different campaigns. It was so awesome getting to work with so many amazing companies while building some unbelievable relationships. I hope I can continue to grow in this aspect and land, even more, brand deals with companies I am passionate about and have loved for years, like 90 Degree By Reflex. But seriously, my first leggings from them were bought back in eight grade, lol.
Travel For The Blog
I know I’m not a travel blogger by any means but I can’t help but want to do some traveling. After all, you’re only my age with so few responsibilities and this many opportunities at your fingertips so often in life. Aside from NYC, I am hoping to travel at least once this year for something blog related. Whether it be for a company or with one, this is something I want to work towards. Plus, I’d love to get a little more travel experience before studying abroad in Italy my junior year!
Maintain A Balance
As vague as this one sounds, I’m going to leave it as my last brand goal of 2020. I did an awesome job at balancing school and my brand last semester and I hope I can continue to do so. Living a “double life” can be so overwhelming at times but it’s more fun than anything. I want to be better at finding a balance. Literally, in keeping up with my posting schedules across my blog, YouTube, and Instagram and in knowing when to turn off the screen and allow myself to live life off the internet. Taking breaks is one of the key factors to success and yet I seem to forget this one so often. I know this one is going to take some work, so I’m going to check in with myself every few weeks and make sure I’m holding myself accountable.
I’ve got a feeling that year five of StyedbyMcKenz and 2020 are going to be killer! Whether I’m taking on the world in cute new 90 Degree By Reflex workout gear or the world’s most fabulous dress, I know this year will be one for the books. Hoping I can look back on this post a year from now feeling proud and accomplished. Until then….
With love, McKenz
