My Go-To Outfit Ideas For May

May is always a tricky time to dress for, at least here in Maryland. We have days where it’s sunny and seventy and others where it’s fifty and cloudy. Kind of unpredictable, right? Today I’m sharing three of my go-to outfit ideas for the month of May. I’ve created these looks using some outfit “formulas”. Not the math kind of formula, the outfit kind, where I share how one item + another equals an adorable, perfectly styled outfit.  Hopefully, this post will help you discover new ways to style items within your closet so you can master the cute outfits this month.

Tee Shirt + Jeans + A Statement Belt 

A tee-shirt + jeans is the simplest outfit combination in the book. Everyone has these two items in their closet; I’m positive! As for spicing up this predictable outfit, play with proportions to make the outfit more appealing. I’m wearing a cute cropped graphic tee. Don’t have a cropped tee? Tuck the front under your bra and there you go; crop top without permanently cutting anything! I’m pairing this top with high waisted mom jeans. I just grabbed these from Romwe and they’ve got the perfect vintage feel to them. A straight leg pair of pants will help keep this look relaxed.

Now the last part of this “equation” if you will, is a cool belt! I love this gold circle one. Belts are an easy way to make a statement and add some spunk to a plain jane outfit idea. I also threw on some gold jewelry to accessorize. Your shoes are also a determining factor in how your look turns out. If you want the look to be a bit more laid back, throw on chunky sneakers. Want to dress it up a bit? Black mules are your best friend!

Bodysuit + Cut Offs + Slides

I used this “formula” all the time last summer when getting dressed for late-night baseball games. It was perfect for me! Cut off shorts are great for those days when it’s warm enough to wear shorts but long sleeves are always appreciated for the brisker evenings.

My go-to with denim shorts is always a bodysuit. They make your outfit look super polished and tuck right into your shorts without any weird bunching. I have this one in three different colors now and it is the best. For shoes, throw on some slides. I like that these keep the look relaxed and help give the look that “girl next door” vibe.

Tee Shirt Dress + Denim Jacket + Taller Shoes

Tee shirt dresses are a must this time of year, especially during quarantine! Talk about cute and so comfy. I’m reaching for one with a big graphic on the front. I love this and cannot wait to pick up more like it to wear all summer long. Denim jackets are an easy layer to throw on—perfect if it’s still a little chilly out. I reached for this fringe one to give this look some movement and a bit of texture.

Taller shoes are a must with this outfit combination. And by tall I don’t necessarily mean heels, I mean a shoe that hits at the calf. So that could be a pair of high top Converse, booties, or a pair of western boots like these white ones from SheIn I’ve got on. I love that these have a twinge of country flare to pair with my denim jacket and they are the perfect height. I’m layering on gold jewelry to edge this look up a bit. These are my favorite gold hoops!
