The number one question I get asked from you is “what am I supposed to wear during sorority recruitment?”. Thankfully, you have me to share all sorts of outfit inspiration with you over the next few days. I have decided to split my “What To Wear” series into three different parts based on the different rounds of sorority recruitment we have at Kent State.
Today, we’re starting with ten different outfit ideas for Open House round, tomorrow will be Sisterhood and the following day Preference round. My goal is to provide as much outfit inspiration as possible while sharing styles that are realistic + affordable.
In today’s YouTube video I’m sharing ten of my favorite outfit ideas for Open House round of sorority recruitment. This video was a bit different for me but I’m so happy with the way it turned out. If you want to see more videos this style that are non-recruitment related, be sure to let me know and I will get working on some other outfit ideas! Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss tomorrow’s ten looks.
For the sake of there being so many different outfits, I took these photos old school, #mirrorselfie style. I hope you don’t mind—I just knew 30 outfits over the span of three days was too much to ask of Madison, lol.
Anyway, without further adieu, here are ten outfit ideas that are perfect for Open House rounds of sorority recruitment. Please keep in mind that every school’s dress code is a little different so what works for me, may need to be modified a bit to work for you! If you go to Kent State the suggested outfit guidelines are: casual/cute, skirts, rompers, comfortable shoes, flowy pants, cute top + jeans.
So many schools, in the south especially, provide a generic tee for you to style during the first few days of recruitment. Often times these shirts will say “go greek” or “recruitment 2020”. Kent State (where I go to school) does not do this so unfortunately, I don’t have any examples of these tees. However, I still wanted to give you a few ideas on how to style one of these shirts. Simply swap out my Alpha Phi tee for the one your school provided!
One of my favorite ways to style a generic tee is with a leather skirt. Playing with texture is such an easy way to spice up your outfit + differ from everyone else. I cannot stress enough how important comfortable footwear is the first few days of recruitment. You will be on your feet for hours so reach for something that you know won’t bother your feet like my lace-up sandals.
As for accessories, a hat is a really unique way to complete your outfit. You want to try and stand out + fun accessories like this one can really help initiate conversation.

If you’re given a tee that’s a subtle pop of color, try reaching for a pair of shoes that match. This cute coordination is so pleasing to the eye and definitely leaves you looking polished + put together. I’m wearing heels with this look but only recommend them during Open House round if you are someone who is used to wearing heels for long periods of time.
As for bottoms, I’m reaching for a denim skirt— but not just any denim skirt. I love the asymmetrical hem and ruffle on this one. It’s an unexpected twist to a classic wardrobe staple. I also recommend wearing a watch during these rounds as you won’t be able to look at your phone to check the time.

Got a basic black and white tee to style? Go for a brighter bottom that will incorporate some color into your outfit. This is actually a skort which is an awesome option if you’re wanting the mobility of shorts but the look of a skirt.
For shoes, I’m wearing my favorite platforms. So many girls will be wearing this style shoe as they are comfortable yet still super cute. These are on the pricier side from Off The Beaten Track but holy cow do I swear by them! I seriously cannot say enough good things about these. They are so easy to dress up and down + can be worn throughout every round.

If you don’t have a specific tee to style, I encourage you to express your personal style to the fullest. I hate to say it, but your outfit/appearance really does give off that initial first impression. Make it a good one! For me, I love anything western and this outfit is very “me”. While it’s not everyone’s person style, it’s mine and it shows off who I really am— that is so important.
The fringe skirt, buckle belt, and western boots combo cannot be beaten. This outfit can easily provoke thoughtful conversation which is the goal when going through each round.

Rompers are another great route to go. Not only are they super cute but they are obviously very comfortable as well. Not to mention, you don’t have to put a whole lot of thought into your outfit. I love a bold color like this green floral one!
My Palm Beach Sandals were the shoes I reached for during both days of Open House. They are some of my most comfortable shoes and look cute with just about anything.

If your school allows you to wear denim, try reaching for a pair of white jeans to give off a classier vibe. I love these paired with this cute bandana top. While this tee is still trendy, the silkiness makes it feel a bit dressier.
I paired this look with a simple pair of block heels and a matching pair of hoops. I highly recommend wearing a statement earring as it draws attention to your face. I cannot tell you how many compliments I got on my earrings throughout recruitment!

I’d personally go the skirt route if I went through recruitment again. It really is the perfect happy-medium as far as dressiness goes. I’m pairing this gingham envelope skirt with just a simple crop top. If your school doesn’t allow crop tops during recruitment, go for a short sleeve bodysuit.
Sneakers are totally fine to wear but I’d personally stick with something a bit trendier like these platform sneakers from Steve Madden. My roommates all wore these throughout the first few days. They give off that “girl next door” vibe!

This outfit is a bit casual for Kent but you could still get away with it. However, my twin sister Madison said this was pretty standard for her recruitment at Marshall University. Just a cute top and jeans will do. This is something I’m sure most girls can recreate with items already in their closet.
I’ve got on a flat pair of lace-up heels and some of my favorite gold jewels. Again, I highly recommend wearing a watch!

Two piece sets are another awesome option, especially if you struggle to put together outfits on your own. I love this yellow one as it’s my favorite color which holds lots of meaning to me. I ended up wearing a lot of color throughout the rounds to try and stand out! For shoes, I’ve got on just a simple pair of slides.

Last but not least, another crop top + skirt combo. Again, you really can’t go wrong with something like this. These elastic platforms were very popular amongst the potential new members last year; so many girls wore these!
I’ve got on a huge pair of statement earrings as per usual. This would be another great combo if you have a required tee-shirt. This skirt comes in a few different color options so grabbing one in your school’s colors would make a fun, festive outfit.
