5 First Day Of School Outfits

It’s hard to believe that the first day of school is right around the corner for many of us. I know high schoolers are only about halfway through their summer but many of us college students will be back on campus in just a few weeks! Today I wanted to sit down and share a few outfit ideas that are perfect for your first day back.

Even if your classes are starting off remotely, as I’m sure most are, getting dressed up will leave you looking and feeling your best. Plus, who doesn’t love the obligatory “first-day” photoshoot?! I know I wouldn’t miss one for the world, lol. Here are five outfit ideas to kick off the new school year in.

All Dolled Up 

This outfit may seem a bit fancy to some of you but if I were still in high school this would have definitely been my first day of school outfit of choice! And just to be clear, the only reason I wouldn’t rock it in college is that my feet can’t stand heels on a day of walking 5+ miles around campus, lol!

This dress is the most gorgeous yellow with beautiful eyelet lace detailing along the hem and giant ruffled sleeves. It’s got an open back cut that’s so flattering too! I wanted to keep things monochromatic this time around and so I reached for short block heels (these were some of my favorite shoes to rock back in the day!) and my signature: huge statement earrings.

To be honest this outfit made me so nostalgic. I used to be this dressed up most days of the school year simply because it brought me so much joy! Agh, the good ole days.

Cute and Casual 

Rompers are the easiest outfit in the book. Not only are they effortless but you look so cute and put together when wearing them. I just recently grabbed this pale green one and it is perfect for the first day!

To keep things casual, I slipped on a simple pair of white sandals. These are flat which is of course great if you’ve got a long day of walking class-to-class ahead of you. Pop on a cute pair of earrings and a few other simple accessories to tie the look together. You don’t have to try too hard with this look and yet you’ll look fab!

Back To The Basics

For those of you who are heading back to school later in the fall or are sitting in chilly air-conditioned classrooms all day, this outfit may be the one for you! I love a good pair of highrise denim and these have been my go-tos lately. They pair perfectly with crop tops like this one.

This top has got all my favorite details— a cinched bodice, bishop sleeves, and the most gorgeous pale green hue! For shoes, I’m reaching for a dainty, gold lace-up sandal. These are a current fav as they look a bit dressier than your typical sandal but look good with everything!

Tank and Shorts

I’ll admit, this outfit is a bit casual for the “first day” in terms of my own personal style, but this is ironically the most common outfit amongst high schoolers and college students. You can never go wrong with a cute tank and shorts! I recommend switching up your usual graphic tee or basic tank for something a little more fun on the first day.

I love a good smocked top with self-tying straps and a cute peplum! The color palette of this one is so bright and happy and by adding matching tassel earrings you’re giving the look a little something “extra”. I’ve got on a trusty pair of denim shorts and I slipped on some platform espadrilles to finish off the outfit. If your school has a rule on tank top straps, throw a cardigan over top and you’ll be good to go!

Skirt and Sneaks 

Last up for the outfits today I’ve got a bodysuit and skirt combo coming at ya. This outfit is totally something I could see my twin sister Madison rocking! I just grabbed this black and white leopard skirt and it’s perfect for any occasion—super easy to dress up or down.

I’m keeping things laid back with a simple tee shirt bodysuit tucked into the skirt and a pair of white platform sneakers from Steve Madden. I love these sneakers for a day of classes! Add some spice to your outfit with a cute pair of earrings and a simple gold cuff.
