Thanks to Covid wrecking havoc on yet another holiday, I’m sure most of you will be spending New Year’s Eve cooped up on your couch. I know, I know not exactly how you envisioned spending the “best years of your life” but it happens. And so when it does, you owe it to yourself (and your closet) to put on a killer outfit anyway and kiss 2020 goodbye in style.
Today I’m sharing a few last-minute outfit ideas featuring the cutest new Princess Polly pieces. I know they may seem a little ~over the top~ but let’s be real, so am I. I figured a little extra spice wouldn’t hurt anybody and come on, what sounds better than ringing in the New Year alone in a sequined dress…. (a lot, actually 🥴). But alas, we must fake it till we make it.
I have been seeing these cowl neck tanks all over recently and while yes, it is I fact the dead of winter I’ve convinced myself that anything goes on New Year’s Eve. Plus, if you’re just getting dressed up for a few photos and then curling up on the couch with your favorite blanket, it won’t really matter that this top is as tiny as it is.
Princess Polly had so many of these tank tops under their New Arrivals but I opted for the solid black one. I love the versatility of this tank and it’s so easy to dress up and down; plus it can transition from season to season making it well worth your money. Pop a leather jacket over the top if you are headed out to dinner/the bar and you’ll be good to go in no time.
I kept things rather simple and slipped into my favorite pair of cropped flare jeans. These are currently 50% off at Express and are without a doubt my most worn jeans. With an ankle crop and raw hem, a pair of black block heels are a must to pair with these. I love a little extra height and with my triple threat gold jewelry combination, this outfit looks so effortless. Honestly, this outfit could work for any time of year and I am obsessed.Â

Nothing screams New Year’s Eve quite like something sequined. I almost never buy this material since it’s hardly meant for everyday wear but when I saw this dress on Princess Polly’s website I knew I could create a killer outfit with it. This piece has a super simple silhouette with a classic v-neck in both the front and back. It’s a shift style too which allows you to eat guilt-free the entire night—which if you’re asking me, is a huge plus.
You definitely could layer a turtleneck underneath or a leather jacket over top of this dress but I decided to keep things simple. Rather than reaching for a pair of heels, I thought a sock bootie would be a perfect choice. The taller shaft of these boots will slim your legs in no time and the three-inch heel will help elongate them simultaneously. For a little extra spice, I threw on a pair of star earrings! I can already picture myself singing karaoke in this fit…

There is truly no occasion a little black dress won’t work for—even watching the ball drop. By now you know I’ve got dozens of them hanging in my closet and yet this backless beauty instantly caught my eye. I’m not usually one for a halter neck or for something fitted but I decided what better way to ring in the New Year than by stepping out of my comfort zone.
This piece definitely runs tiny so if you’re not on the petite side I’d recommend skipping out on this one. I’m 5’2″ and this dress is just the right length for me. It ties along the neck, leaving the entirety of your back exposed. You’ll definitely be a little chilly wearing this in the dead of winter but I mean, come on, just imagine the photos you could take in it!
The front of it is so classy with its high neckline. I popped on a pair of gold hoops, my favorite black heels, and a chain-link crossbody to accessorize the look. If you’re needing something fancier for your New Years plans, this is definitely the option for you!

My go-to going out attire is almost always jeans and a bodysuit. My Pinterest board has been flooded with these sheer bustier-style tops and asymmetrical jeans so naturally I found similar styles on Princess Polly and added both to my cart. I have to say, this outfit is definitely out of my comfort zone but it left me feeling straight off of New York City streets.
These jeans definitely aren’t for everyone but if you’re looking to spice up your everyday blue jeans, I highly recommend testing out a new waistband. This specific pair runs a little big along the waist so I recommend going down a size. Straight-leg jeans are all the rage right now so you’ll definitely get lots of wears out of these. Add black heeled booties for a little lift and the perfect mix of feminine + grunge.

Well. which look was your favorite?! I’d love to hear in the comments below along with any New Year’s Resolutions you may have. I’m dedicating this afternoon to coming up with my own goals + manifestations. I can’t say this year went even remotely close to how I had planned but I’m grateful for all the struggles and successes nonetheless. I hope you too are able to find the silver lining within this ~tragic~ year. Wishing you a happy, healthy New Year.
With love, McKenz
