A year ago today I headed to these same buildings in a pretty prom dress for my final photoshoot of freshman year. I drove home the next day to finish my school year from home. It is so crazy to think it’s been a year and even crazier to think of all that has changed since—both in our world and here on Styled by McKenz. Those early quarantine days truly spiraled my growth here on the blog, flipping my world upside down.
Although some things still remain the same—today I’m also dressed in a few pretty gowns from Windsor, smiling in front of the same columns to share a few styles that are perfect for your upcoming sorority formal. I know I typically share prom content this time of year but as I get older, so has my audience. So, with that have come several requests to start shifting into sorority formalwear.
I know every place is different; while some schools wear long dresses to their dance, others wear short. Not to worry, I’ll be covering both this month but am starting off today with the long ones! These could also work for your high school prom, especially if the “dress code” is a bit more casual.
Windsor is hands down the best place to shop for formal dresses. They have hundreds of dresses and so much variety. Whether you’re looking for something long or short, strapless or backless they’ve got it all. Plus, if we’re being honest, most special occasion dresses only get worn once. Windsor’s prices cannot be beaten—the quality for the price you pay is unmatched!
Starting off, I’ve got the most amazing emerald green dress to share with you. I seriously don’t think I’ve ever worn a dress more flattering than this one. I am 5’2 with a 25-inch waist and 34B chest and the XS literally fits me like a glove. I was pleasantly surprised as this dress does not have a zipper closure, just a lace-up back and yet it left me looking as curvy as ever.
With a mermaid-inspired fit, this dress hugs your hips before giving way to a gorgeous train. I love that it’s not too long; with three-inch heels, there’s just the right amount of material left behind. It’s also got a super flattering neckline and is lined with light pads so you don’t have to worry about a sticky bra or nipple petals. I accessorized it with a pair of gold statement earrings, my favorite rings, and the cutest crossbody bag from SheIn.

I know that last dress definitely makes a statement; if you’re looking for something a little more casual then this one-shoulder maxi is right up your alley. You can truly never go wrong with a classic black dress. Plus, regardless of what your date is wearing you’ll end up matching them!
This dress has a super simple silhouette. It too is a maxi style and has a high leg slit along the left-hand side. This makes the dress far easier to walk in. Plus, it gives you the perfect opportunity to show off your shoes—although I went with a classic black heel, a statement color to match your earrings would be adorable too!
I love a little one-shoulder moment. This gives you the best of both worlds (strapless and straps) so you can dance the night away without worrying about your dress sliding around. I accessorized with gold hoops and my favorite chain-link purse.

If I’m being honest, I saw Natalie Zacek rock this dress over on her Instagram so I immediately ran to Windsor’s site and added it to my cart. She wore this to a wedding and looked incredible in it—their dresses are also great as wedding guest attire or even as affordable bridesmaid options!
Regardless, I thought this would be the perfect option for a sorority formal. It’s got a sexy slit along the side and that cowl neckline that’s so popular this season. This combination is effortlessly flattering and looks amazing on so many different figures.
I decided to take advantage of my legs being on display and threw on a pair of nude heels from Fashion Nova. Reach for a pair that lace-up to make your legs look miles long. A simple necklace, a gold cuff, and a big ole pair of statement earrings are all you need to complete this outfit. This look will leave you feeling like a million bucks—I promise!

Well, that’s a wrap for the long formal dresses! Don’t you love them?! Let me know which one was your favorite in the comments below—I’m going to have to go with the green. If you’re still on the hunt for a cute, affordable option I highly recommend checking out more of Windsor’s styles. I’ll be sharing a few shorter dresses from them next week so stay tuned!
With love, McKenz
