It’s Labor Day weekend which means practically *every* store is having a sale right now! If you don’t have any big plans for the long weekend, perhaps some online shopping sounds appealing. I know I’ll be doing some scrolling over the next few days—specifically at Express.
Express has been my go-to store for trusty basics and high-quality denim for years now. However, with the recent launch of their Body Contour collection, I’ve become more obsessed than ever before. These high-quality tops are made of a super thick material that’s double-lined—sucking you in at all the right places without being see-through.
The Cropped High Neck Tank in specific has quickly become a staple in my closet. So much so that I now have it in 8 of the 35 colors available. Yup.. they are that good. And the best part is, they can be styled for practically every occasion. Whether you’re headed to class, on a date, or to your internship you’re sure to look adorable in one of these tanks. Today I’m sharing five ways to wear them as we transition out of summer and into fall! Enjoy.
As I move deeper into my years at Kent State, it feels like everyone around me is headed to an internship or part-time job. While I obviously work for myself and can truly wear *whatever I feel like*, I realize this isn’t the case for everyone. Most workplaces have a business casual dress code, meaning no ripped denim, low cuts, or open-toed shoes.
No worries; although these tops say they are cropped, when paired with high-waisted bottoms you have no skin on display. They are that perfect in-between length that can look shorter or longer depending on what you’re going for. I’ve got the ivory one layered underneath a bright orange blazer. I absolutely love this hue—it screams fall and is the perfect layering piece. Wear it over a dress or favorite graphic tee to mix things up.
I went the denim route for this look. I just grabbed these straight-leg jeans from Express and am obsessed. I’m not usually a fan of this style on my petite frame but with a cropped cut and a super high-waist, these made my legs look crazy long. To keep things professional I slipped into my favorite mules from Chinese Laundry. These are my go-to shoes as we transition into the cooler temperatures. Pop on some gold jewels and bam you’ve got a polished look in no time.

Getting dressed for a date is arguably the hardest task, especially if you don’t know where you’re going for it! These tops are so versatile that they’ll work for practically any destination. My go-to outfit when I’m not sure what to wear but need a confidence booster begins with a high-neck black tank top. These slim you down in the best way and look so classy with gold necklaces layered over top.
Next, I’m slipping into a good ole pair of blue jeans. Cropped flares happen to be my favorite style. Not only is this stretch plus material so comfortable but this cut is very flattering on my frame.
Depending on the day (and the weather) I may reach for boots or sneakers but this time around I’m dressing things up with a mini pair of block heels. These are a super manageable height yet give the outfit an expensive feel. Gold hoops and a cute shoulder bag complete this outfit effortlessly.

Outdoor concerts are happening left and right here in Ohio. They are the perfect end to summer! I went to see Riley Green last week and am seeing Randy Houser later this month. Something like this is perfect for an end-of-summer showing. The reality is, concert venues have you packed in like sardines so a pair of shorts is a must. I just grabbed these from the Wild Fable line at Target and I love them. They are the perfect amount of high rise and aren’t too short!
Of course a Body Contour tank pairs just fine with this outfit too! This is actually one of my favorite colors from them. It’s the “Pecan” and it makes my tan pop big time.
Of course, you’ve got to bring that color back in somewhere else. For me, the answer is almost always a felt hat, especially come the fall time. This one is an old favorite from Lack of Colors. To give me a bit of height and to help elongate the legs, I’m slipping into a pair of booties with a high shaft. These are my current favorite style as they work with every outfit. They are real leather and incredibly comfortable—Franco Sarto makes nothing but the best.

I’ve been wearing these tops on lazy work-from-home days too! They can easily be dressed up but also look fantastic with your favorite pair of sweats. These joggers are from SheIn and were some of my most worn pairs last season. They are the perfect weight for these transitional weeks and of course, go with everything.
It’s been so chilly in my apartment that most days I’ve needed to layer on a hoodie to keep warm. I went for a white, monochromatic look this time around. For shoes, my Koolaburra Ugg slippers do just the trick. These are so soft and cozy yet have real soles so they can be worn in and out of the house. The little bit of brown along the soles matches my chocolate brown tank beautifully!

I know it’s September but I can’t abandon my favorite shorts just yet. Not only am I emotionally attached to them, but walking miles around campus in stiff jeans just does not sound appealing to me (yet). Trusty denim shorts have been on repeat for me these last couple of weeks. I’ve been loving the longer boyfriend style. These black ones are from Boohoo and pair well with (you guessed it!) a high neck tank.
While you could totally leave this outfit as is, I’ve popped a flannel on to ease into those fall layers. Leave it tied around the waist on your way to class and thrown it over as you sit in a chilly classroom.
Converse have been my saving grace this year. I’ve worn them throughout every season, with every outfit. They truly go with everything and are surprisingly comfortable enough for a day on campus. I’m throwing my hair in a last-minute claw clip and grabbing a cute shoulder bag to make this outfit look a little more effortless. Ironic how it’s the finishing touches that do that, isn’t it?!

These tops are seriously the best pieces in my closet. The Body Contour collection rarely goes on sale but this weekend only everything is 40% off. Grab em while they are fully stocked! While today I just covered the Cropped High Neck Tank, I also have a handful of the other styles and they are all so good.
I also placed a huge order of Express jeans recently. If you want to see how I’m styling my favorite pairs be sure to let me know in the comments below. I’d love to share more fall transition outfits if it’s something you’re interested in seeing. In the meantime, I’ll be sharing a full try-on session to my Instagram stories (@styledbymckenz).
