In February of 2020, I went to my first New York Fashion Week and it was nothing short of incredible. I shot thousands of photos, walked hundreds of steps, and attended dozens of shows. It was everything and yet nothing like I’d dreamed it to be. However, I came home eager to plan my September trip back into the city.
Unfortunately, Covid took the world by surprise and the first live runway wouldn’t resume until September of 2021. Luckily, I did make it back to the big apple, and similar to my first NYFW experience, it was a whirlwind. I put together some fantastic outfits that I cannot wait to share with you today!
I ended up photographing 16 outfits throughout my trip—six worn to different shows and events, and the rest to dinners, brunches, and “just for fun”. I’ll share those ten outfits in a separate blog post. For now, let’s break down my “high fashion” looks on a college student budget.

When I saw this light green dress on Fashion Nova’s website I knew I had to have it. There’s something about this old-school bubble style that was quite literally screaming my name. It’s got the most amazing puff sleeves and a deep v leaving some of the chest exposed. To fill out that skirt, this dress has quite a bit of crinoline in it. This helps the piece keep its shape.
Because this dress makes such a statement on its own, I knew I couldn’t stop there. Go big or go home, baby! I grabbed these fabulous floral print go-go boots from Dolls Kill to complete the outfit. They have a fun mix of orange, pink, and green so shockingly enough, I know I’ll be pulling them out again sometime soon. These boots have a super tall platform but if I can make it 20,000 steps in NYC in them, you can too.
Believe me, I know this outfit isn’t everyone’s taste but my gosh did I love it—and so did everyone else I passed. I had dozens of photographers asking to take my photo and even more people stopping to ask where my fit was from. Double YAY! This was easily one of my favorite looks to date.

I’ve been a sucker for this feather trim detail since my dress-up days in the basement. I was sent this white dress over the summer and felt fashion week was the appropriate time to pull it out. I’m not usually a fan of bodycon dresses but the boa-fur trim along the top helps direct the eye upwards.
However, if you know me then you know my love for a monochrome look. I have an *unhealthy* obsession with matching my top perfectly to my shoes. So, when I saw these Lulus heels I had to have them. These have a pointed toe with a small kitten heel that was super manageable for walking around the city. And while some may say they’re overkill, I fell in love.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this sequin number when I pulled it out of the box but to my surprise, dozens of you said to bring it on my live pack with me. So, with a little room left in my suitcase, I squeezed it in. This piece certainly isn’t for everyone but it’s incredibly unique, catching every eye whether for the right reason or not. It’s got an incredible open back, met with a mock neck detail up top.
Although the feathered sleeves are easily my favorite part—they are incredibly fun! For shoes, I threw on a pair of black spiral heels from SheIn. I love the look of these—they slim and elongate the legs simultaneously making me feel like the bad a$$ I am. However, they are not the easiest to walk in as they slide around a lot, so make sure to have a change of shoes on hand.
I took things easy for Saturday’s shows—swapping my usual dress out for a fun pair of pants. These incredible wide-leg leather bottoms are from Free People. As fantastic as they look, I certainly do not recommend them for a five-mile walk around NYC on an eighty-degree day, lol.
However, with a white halter neck top and a good pair of white heels, it sure looked fantastic for my afternoon fashion shows. I had several followers reach out saying this was the perfect NYC bar fit too—so, if you’re of age to drink, here’s a little inspo for ya. 😉
It’s true what they say, you can never go wrong with a little black dress. This satin one was a recent Showpo find and it did not disappoint. With bustier-style cups and a bit of boning throughout, this dress stayed in place all day. It’s got an adorable wrap around the front with a cute asymmetrical hem. Paired with my black spiral heels, a gold chain link bag, and a few everyday accessories this piece scored me dozens of compliments.
With fall right around the corner, I’ve been on a major chocolate brown kick. This Whitefox Boutique dress was right up my alley and man did it exceed my expectations. Few clothing items in life have made me feel as confident as this did. Think of your average oversized button-up, but with an incredible drape and tie details to synch the sleeves and waist for the most flattering fit ever.
I’m wearing an XS for reference. Admittedly at 5’2, this dress is borderline too short but with a pair of nude heels, this made my legs look so sexy and long. I popped on my favorite butterfly earrings and a nude bag to complete the look. I especially love this because while it was perfect for a fashion show, it could also work for several other occ
