I blinked and October flew by. I’ve always loved this time of year—school starts to pick up, there’s something to look forward to every weekend, and the last of the summer sunshine seems to linger. This October was especially good to me with huge Styledby milestones, my first trip to the West Coast, and so many fun sorority functions.
I’ve been rereading these recaps from years prior and am realizing I’m exactly where I had hoped to be. I can’t imagine where I’ll be years from now…. feeling extra grateful today to have it all on camera.
After a warm start to the month, fall finally rolled in. From shorts the first week to puffer coats the last, it feels like I’ve worn just about everything in my closet this month, lol. I’ve gone back to my layering roots and have been reaching for button-ups like crazy—corduroy, flannel, leather you name it. Underneath I’ve been loving basic H&M tees, Aerie cropped sports bras and even sweaters. There are endless options!
While I have loved getting to break out some trendier pieces + start styling sweaters for the fall festivities going on, my true favorite has been loungewear. I’ve been lazing around the house in comfy Whitefox sets and my Aerie crossovers all month long. If you don’t have the leggings and yoga pants yet, you need to get on that! I seriously change into them every single evening to wear around the house.
As for shoes—I’ve reached for my Converse a ton but have also gotten a few new favorites from Steve Madden. I have a couple of pairs that I’ll link down below. Personally, the Hutch are my favorite. They are one of the easiest boots to dress up or down and the heel height is perfect for everyday wear.
I’m sure you’ve seen my LA content plastered across every platform so it should come as no surprise that my favorite looks of the month all came from this trip. I managed to shoot twenty outfits throughout my trip and am still posting photos from it. It was so much fun getting to wear some of my more “out there” pieces especially these go-go boots.
My floral pair got so much love in New York City that I just had to grab another fun pair for California. I settled on this heart pair from Dolls Kill and am obsessed. I can’t wait to break them out again sometime soon. In the meantime, I’m trying to shoot some Thanksgiving content + get back to “normal” looks for all of my college peeps.
I got lash extensions right before my trip to California and am obsessed with them. If you’re in the Kent area I cannot recommend @lashously.living at Get Pretty in Downtown Kent enough. She did a fantastic job and three weeks later my lashes still look good!
I’ve gotten a few questions about what I asked for. To be honest, I just showed her a photo of the falsies I wear and asked her to create something similar. They ended up being more of a “doll” shape which was perfect for my eye. I haven’t decided if I’m going to get them filled yet—it’s not the best to keep them on all the time so I may give my lashes some time to breathe. However, they are so worth the splurge before a trip if you’re someone who is constantly on camera.
I find myself becoming reobsessed with Adele every fall but especially this year thanks to her new single Easy On Me. I couldn’t be more excited for her new album to come out and in the meantime will be screaming the old ones at the top of my lungs.
As for TV, I’m halfway through the new season of YOU. I’ve been watching it one episode at a time with my roomies. So far I’m unimpressed but everyone says it gets good towards the end so we’ll see, I have high hopes!

October was special in a lot of ways. For starters, I flew to Los Angeles to visit one of my best friends Jules. It was a very full-circle moment getting to see a new city and explore possible internship locations with a friend I met through Instagram. We had the best time and I am so grateful for friends that truly make me better in every way.
My big goal for the month was to hit 30K on Instagram and I’m happy to report I hit it last night! This was such a huge milestone for me. It’s always exciting hitting a new “ten”, especially on Instagram where it’s harder to grow. Also, as promised, I shared far more photos with my friends + more real-time on stories. I’m so proud of myself and am learning to say this more often.
I had steady growth everywhere else and am on track to meet those 2021 goals—woohoo! To be transparent, this month was my best ever as far as income goes. I landed some huge brand deals with companies I truly love and have used for several years—Ugg, DSW, Course Hero, and more. Money aside, I hope to continue this momentum throughout the rest of the year as there’s nothing better than getting to be creative for a brand that has truly helped shape me.
We’re getting down to the last of 2021 which is absolutely insane to even be typing. Hoping to hit 40K on Tik Tok + 60K on YouTube. These are two huge milestones for me that I can’t wait to celebrate.
As far as content goes I plan on using November to start sharing gift guides + ideas as well as Thanksgiving outfit inspo and more. I want to start cross-promoting to Pinterest again to help strengthen my website as well. I’ve been slacking big time over here and want to get back into my groove.
My biggest goal for the month is to get my December/January winter break travels in line. I’m really looking forward to going somewhere sunny and seventy-five + creating a few travel guides and need to get working on that ASAP. Manifesting a trip to Hawaii right now… Also manifesting the opportunity to travel with a brand.
I’ve been reading a lot about manifestation and honestly, I’m not 100% sold on it but trust that speaking something like this into existence couldn’t hurt.
Oh, and I need to start thinking about my 6-year anniversary shoot… we’re going big this year and I’ve got to get working on that. Sigh, time does fly when you’re having fun!
Life kept on giving this month. Every single week something was going on. Homecoming, followed by parents weekend, followed by fall break, halloweekend, big-little reveal, and now Halloween. I can’t seem to catch a break and yet being so busy has brought me so much joy. I feel like I’m really taking advantage of this senior year, doing all sorts of fun, different things. We celebrated Logan’s birthday dinner at The River Merchant, had a fun photoshoot in the water, and are off to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. I’m so excited!
Kent gave us a Thursday/Friday fall break and I decided to take advantage of no Wednesday/Monday classes and went to California for a full six days. I had the time of my life with two of my best friends. We ate yummy food, did all the touristy things, shot tons of photos, and laughed harder than I have in a long long time. My creative energy flourished here and I hope to be back sooner rather than later.
We’ve had so much going on recently between date parties, philanthropy events, and random nights out. The roomies and I have been spending more time together too which has made my heart feel fuller than ever. I’m trying my best to soak in this season of life. Cheers to an awesome month and hopefully an even better November!
With love, McKenz
