I’ve been in California for a little over three weeks now and I’ve been having the best time getting to explore new areas each weekend. This past weekend I drove down to San Diego to spend a few days with one of my YouTube besties, Devon. She has lived there for several months now so we got a true ~authentic experience~.
We ate yummy food, went out on the town, and spent some time soaking up the sun. Typically when I travel I’m on a “content trip”, aiming to change for every event to maximize outfits and photo opportunities. However, this trip was “just for fun” therefore all of these outfits I actually wore for the occasion which (I hope) makes this post even more helpful. Enjoy!

San Diego was a true beach town with super casual vibes all around. All of the restaurants and bars were within walking distance from our house so sandals it was! These little straw flats from Franco Sarto have been on repeat for me all summer long. I love the beachy element they add to any outfit and they are super comfortable.
I’m keeping things simple with a cute top and denim shorts. It was a lot chillier here than I expected come evening time, so for dinner, I popped on a linen button-up to give me a lightweight layer. If you’ve been keeping up with my platforms then you know I’ve been wearing this one nonstop all summer long. So good!

Off to the beach in the cutest kini! This two-toned one has removable straps which I love. Perfect to leave on when swimming but you can remove them to avoid tan lines when sunbathing. The bottoms sit a bit higher up on the hips, elongating the legs and showing just a little bit of cheek around the back.
Breakfast burritos are all the rage in San Diego so naturally, we had to grab them for brunch. I wasn’t expecting to wear jeans as much as I did this trip—I would’ve brought two pairs had I known! These are my all-time favorite straight-leg jeans from Express. They hug the tush and flatter the waist, but are a bit wider towards the bottom. I have them cuffed for a casual feel.
This adorable ruffle top is in my favorite color of the season—kelly green. So flattering and scored me tons of compliments. I carried this purse all week long. Sadly, it’s sold out now but I’ve linked it in case they restock!

We spent a few hours exploring the La Jolla area and taking photos around cute side streets. For this occasion, a sunny flowy dress was absolutely necessary. I am obsessed with this simple slip dress from SheIn. It has a criss-cross back and a simple neckline. Truthfully, I went barefoot but simple sandals would definitely fit the San Diego vibe if you were wearing this out to dinner!
I’m finally 21 which means the girls and I went out on the town for the night. In college, my go-to going-out fit always consisted of a simple black bodysuit and straight-leg jeans. With San Deigo having a really young, post-grad-like atmosphere, this outfit worked just fine.
Becuase everything was within walking distance, I dressed this look up with a pair of lace-up heels. I always like a little bit of lift for a night out—gives me a little confidence booster and makes me feel not so mini, haha.
Another day another swimmie. I’m so grateful to be living in California so that my gigantic swimsuit collection can finally be put to use! On this day I sported a color-blocked kini from SheIn! This one has that classic string-style top that I love paired with a standard, cheeky bottom.
We drove over to catch the sunset and I had no idea what to throw on. Had I brought a matching sweat set, I would’ve worn that but the only long pants I had with me were that one pair of jeans, so I threw them on. It’s rather dusty over here so I definitely recommend closed-toe shoes. (Preferably not white like mine lol).
Up top, I’ve got on a simple seamless tank and a hoodie to keep me warm. Nothing special but this was reality so I figured I’d toss this look into the post!

On our second night out, I decided I’d go for shorts and keep my arms covered this time. Up top, I’m wearing an adorable piece from Oh Polly. I have the cropped version of this top and loved it so much that I finally got the bodysuit too. Square necklines are so flattering—especially if you don’t have a terrible tan line like me, lol.
I didn’t feel like wearing sneakers or heels tonight. This town gave me flip-flop vibes anyways so I fit right in with those trusty straw sandals!

Well, that’s a wrap on the outfits I wore to San Diego! I hope that this gave you some real-life outfit inspo for your next weekend trip. It’s been so much fun getting to explore new areas of California. I’m off to Newport this weekend and can hardly wait.
Stay tuned for my San Diego travel guide coming next…
With love, McKenz
