The number one question I get asked from you all during back-to-school season is “what am I supposed to wear during sorority recruitment?”. Don’t worry, that’s why I’m here! Similar to years passed, I will continue to split my “What To Wear” series into three different parts based on the different rounds of sorority recruitment we have at Kent State.
Today, we’re starting with ten different outfit ideas for Open House round; tomorrow will be Sisterhood, and the following day Preference round. My goal is to provide as much outfit inspiration as possible while sharing styles that are realistic + affordable.
Please keep in mind that every school’s dress code is a little different so what works for me, may need to be modified to work for you! If you go to Kent State the suggested outfit guidelines for this round are: casual/cute, skirts, rompers, comfortable shoes, flowy pants, cute top + jeans.
I know some schools provide generic tee shirts to wear during those first few days of sorority recruitment. We don’t do this at Kent but in that case, I tried my best to style several white tops so that you could easily swap this piece out if you’re given a specific tee to wear!
For my first look, you just can’t go wrong with a Body Contour bodysuit and a cute skirt to match. This bubblegum pink is the cutest + makes such a statement. I always love when my shoes match my top—it’s a simple way to keep an outfit looking cohesive. Comfy shoes are a must as you’ll be on your feet almost all day during these rounds. I’m wearing a short block heel to give me just a little bit of lift.

You just can’t go wrong with a basic bodysuit and skirt combination! I am obsessed with the mix of bright colors along this one. Choosing an outfit with a bright hero piece like this skirt will definitely help you stand out amongst the crowd. That’s a good thing! This time around I’m wearing simple white sandals and a cute purse to match. No need for a tote, just something small that can hold your keys, phone, and wallet during the rounds!

I know denim isn’t allowed at some schools so I tried to keep the outfits featuring it to a minimum. If you go to Kent State too, jeans are just fine. However, I recommend a white pair for a more polished feel! These straight legs are some of my favorites. Of course they are Express! I’m wearing a 00 regular and they are true to size. Up top, I’m throwing on a super cute blouse! So professional and comes in a gazillion different colors.

Matching sets are another super easy outfit idea for Open House round. These require virtually no effort—just toss on a pair of sandals and a cute little purse and you’re good to go!

Nothing beats a fun pair of pants for the first round of recruitment, especially if you’re looking for an easy way to spice up the bland tee shirt they gave you! We don’t have them at Kent, so in that case, I’d stick with a simple white tee like this Body Contour one. It looks adorable with these pink gingham pants.
Slipping into sneakers for this outfit—I’m more of a toes-out kind of girl, but I know so many girls who choose sneakers instead. You’ll be on your feet all day every day so I encourage you to wear a shoe that is most comfortable for you.

Button-ups are another super easy way to look polished and professional if that’s more your vibe. I have this linen button-front blouse in several colors and it’s one of my favorites. You can easily wear this to class or unbuttoned as a beach cover-up; definitely something you’ll get more use out of. As for pants, I’m reaching for these light tan straight legs from Express.
Although they are denim, the wash + stretchy fabric gives these an elevated feel. I’m obsessed. You know me… for shoes, I’m popping on a bright pink block heel to match the rest of the look.

On my first day of sorority recruitment, I wore almost this exact outfit. I think a fun bright pair of pants is perfect for the occasion. You stand out by choosing a bright color so the girls recruiting you have an easier time matching a name to a face. These green ones run a little long but are too cute!
Up top, I’m wearing just a simple white tank. I love these high-neck ones from Express; they are super modest and look great with some layered jewelry.

Another fun pair of pants… I actually have these blue trouser-like bottoms in three other colors because they are just that good. These are lightweight linen so they are super breathable. And although they do have an elastic waistband, they have a tapered trouser-like fit to them that makes them look and feel super professional.
Adding another Body Contour bodysuit and a simple pair of heels to match. Feel free to toss on a cute little purse for another fun pop of color.

How adorable is this tulle rainbow top?! I’m obsessed with how bright and happy this color palette is. With those same tan straight legs from before and a few pops of green to compliment the top, we’ve got such a fun look!

I couldn’t love this skirt more if I tried! This shirred wrap skirt has just enough flounce to it; easy breezy and just the right length to help elongate the legs. I wanted to do a little bit of hue mixing so I popped on a pair of light pink heels and a cute crossbody to match. Super simple and yet I love the way these two pinks play off of one another.
