Back from an incredible trip to Marrakech, Morocco, and wow, is all I have to say! Definitely one of my favorite study abroad trips so far. Having never been to Africa, I was a little unsure of what to wear for our weekend full of excursions. I’ll be honest, Pinterest wasn’t much of a help either. So, I figured today’s outfit guide, although short and sweet, was definitely necessary.
For reference, we visited in mid-October and temperatures were still in the high eighties each day with full sun. However, it is considered a sign of respect to have your shoulders and legs covered at all times, so lightweight linens are going to be your best bet for keeping cool. Although you do not have to keep your head covered, many people choose to so it’s always a good idea to have a scarf on hand when traveling here.
We did everything from riding camels to hiking mountains, to exploring the desert on ATVs‚—I’ve got you covered with four outfit ideas perfect for your trip to Africa with direct links to shop. Enjoy!
As I said lightweight linens are a must when traveling to Africa, especially since you have to keep covered while also keeping cool. I got this green matching set in the mail several weeks ago and purposely saved it for this trip. I thought the long top over the pants would make a killer combo and that it did! The top piece of this set is strapless so I went ahead and tied a long scarf around my shoulders to act as a shaw. It stayed knotted throughout the day and looked adorable.
As for shoes, I went back and forth throughout the day. I ended up wearing this outfit for our day full of camel riding and figured I’d want to be in sneakers for that activity, therefore I stuck to Converse. However, I changed into gold lace-up sandals for our evening + dinner around the city center and definitely preferred the look of this more. Very feminine and so chic. This would also be a cute outfit to bring to Greece this time of year!

I brought this white jumpsuit with me all the way from Maryland when I began my study abroad journey and had been saving it for the perfect occasion. Some may say that all white is definitely not the vibe for a morning full of ATV riding but I thought it would look so rad all dusty and muddy after exploring the desert. Plus, I find that white is some of the easiest to clean since you can just pop some bleach on it. I ended up being just the right temperature in this. Not too sweaty, but also had something a bit thicker to keep my legs from getting all dirty.
I wore white Converse since I only had room for one pair of sneakers this trip and ended up throwing them in the washing machine once getting back to Florence—I typically clean my white sneakers this way and it works like a charm every time. Just spray them with stain remover, throw laundry detergent in, and wash as normal, and leave out to dry. I did throw a bandana on—I wasn’t sure if I needed this to cover up my mouth (I didn’t, we had helmets and goggles on instead), but still loved the look of it around my neck.

We spent one of our afternoons on a walking tour around the city, stopping to shop and visit the main palace of Marrakech. I ended up wearing a white-on-white outfit for this occasion, starting with an Express Body Contour tee up top. I have these in literally every single color and they are my absolute favorite piece in my closet. Double-lined, not see-through, and hold everything in. I go braless in these every time and they are amazing.
For my skirt, I’m wearing the cutest maxi from Princess Polly. This is also double-lined and has a really full skirt that’s so easy to twirl around in. I couldn’t love this piece more and am so glad I brought it with me—many other tourists + people in our group were dressed similarly.
I wore my lace-up sandals again with this outfit. Plenty of people will be wearing open-toed shoes so you don’t have to worry about that. I had full intention of covering my head with a bright-colored scarf to complete this outfit but ended up taking these pictures before I bought one. However, that would have pulled this outfit together beautifully!

My final day in Marakkech was spent doing all of the things—visiting a traditional Hammam spa, shopping for last-minute souvenirs, and traveling home by plane and train. Needless to say, I needed a universal outfit that could work for all of these occasions. I ended up wearing a pair of thicker linen pants from Express. These fit me beautifully and have a bit more structure to them so they are perfect to dress up and down.
Typically, I would prefer something a bit more fitted with these to give myself some shape however, billowy linens are definitely more the vibe for Africa. I ended up pairing these with a white button-up from Cupshe. Super cute with layered jewelry and sandals. This was the perfect outfit, even as I arrived back in Florence, greeted by temperatures in the low seventies. When in doubt, just pack the linens, you won’t regret it.
