They say time flies when you’re having fun… it feels like I just left for my study abroad semester and yet there I sat packing up my tiny Florence, Italy apartment. A lot of hard goodbyes, many overweight suitcases, and a few chaotic flights later Olivia, Lauren, and I landed safe and sound in Ohio.
Even faster than the last thirteen weeks studying abroad were the 3.5 years we’ve spent living this crazy college life together. Where oh where has the time gone?! Graduated from Kent State University this weekend with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and Media and I still can’t seem to wrap my head around it. I swear just yesterday I was getting my vlog camera as a high school graduation gift—now I’m editing my final college vlog ever.
The good news is they also say home is where the heart is and I am so lucky to have left such a big piece of mine within that campus. I couldn’t have dreamt up a better college experience if I tried. I know deep in my heart that God placed me there for a reason and I feel so very grateful to have had you all along for the ride.
I am so very sad to see this chapter close and yet I couldn’t be more excited for all of the adventure that lies before me. Following the holiday season at home, I will be pursuing Styled by McKenz full-time, continuing my travels while bringing new business ideas to life. I can’t wait.
Thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for all of your love and support. I truly wouldn’t be here without you!
With love, McKenz
An Open Letter To Study Abroad
It’s with great sadness in my heart that I publish the LAST college week in my life vlog. It’s hard to believe I picked up this camera for the first time the day of my freshman year orientation. Time flies. Thank you x a million for sticking with me over the years—can’t wait for all of the home, travel, and moving vlogs coming in the New Year! xo

Off to the Duomo before class to snap some final pictures in Florence with my besties. Then off to school to take two finals and present a seven-page paper. Three classes down, one more to go. Saying goodbye to our favorite professor ever, Simone! What a special semester we’ve had with him.

How on earth is it our last day of school ever?! It feels like yesterday we were showing up to our first Fashion Fundamentals class together and now we’re turning in our final exam in Florence! Enjoying one last panini and gelato, shopping for a few last souvenirs, and then off to La Giostra for some of the famous pear ravioli and another Aperol spritz. Going to miss these nights so much!

The entire semester Lauren and I have said that we’d go to Pisa to take our Leaning Tower pictures… we sure did wait until the last minute, lol. But we had beautiful weather and no tourists around so we got some super cute photos and enjoyed one last train ride. We packed up the last of our suitcases and got the gang together for one last meal in Florence. Lots of tears tonight!

Up bright and early at the Florence airport… who knew today would be such chaos?! I flew from Florence to Paris, Paris to Detroit, and Detroit to Cleveland, running through all three airports, lol. Never a smooth travel day with me! 😅 But Rocco picked me up safe and sound and in one piece. Surprising the girls at the pregame and enjoying a fun night out at the bars. It feels so good to be back together!

Got my girls up bright and early for my usual “morning after” walk along the trail. This is a tradition I’ll just never let go of, no matter how hungover my friends are haha. My parents arrived in Kent and it felt so good to be reunited! We went to Bricco for dinner then hit the bars all together. Love having all of my people in my favorite spot. Just trying to beat the jet lag!

Graduation day!!!! Can you believe it?! 3.5 years gone in the blink of an eye. Had our ceremony bright and early this morning. We took photos, bought our Kent State Alumni gear and went for a celebratory lunch. Then off to Rays and Doms for a long night of celebrating with all of our friends and family. Lots of hard goodbyes today—feeling so lucky to have a place that feels so much like home.

Up and at em grabbing breakfast with Emily and her fam at Over Easy this morning. One last time, for old time’s sake. Then packing the car and driving home to Maryland. Man does it feel good to be back in my own bed. Spent the night journaling about my weekend and thanking my lucky stars for the best support system ever!
