Headed to Mexico for spring break? Or somewhere warm to escape the brutal winter cold? I don’t blame you— I spent the week soaking up the sun in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and it was incredible. There’s nothing a little sunshine can’t fix!
If you’re not sure what to wear in Mexico this season, the answer is lots of swimsuits, mini dresses, and straw accessories. Today I’m sharing eight outfits I wore during my trip, complete with links to shop. Regardless of where your next tropical vacation is, you’re sure to score some outfit inspiration today. Enjoy!
*I want to note that all of the photos taken in today’s outfit guide were taken at Velas Vallarta, a beautiful family all-inclusive resort located in the heart of Puerto Vallarta. The property was huge and full of gorgeous photo ops. You can view the best rates and availability here if interested!

There’s no better place for a sexy one-piece swimsuit than Mexico. I got this one from Sophie The Label swimwear, a small sustainable business that sells the cutest suits. It’s a strapless suit that ties around the front. It’s got an extremely high cut, effortlessly slimming your waist, and making your legs look miles long.
Keeping the sun off of my face with a wide-brimmed straw hat. I love that this one keeps its shape; I wore it all week long. As for my beach day essentials, tossing those into my favorite straw tote bag. Truly the perfect duo.

There’s no better feeling than that post-beach-day getting ready sesh when your nose is slightly sunkissed and your hair is all oiled up. Changing into a mini dress to highlight that tan! This is one of my favorite silhouettes from Pepper Mayo + the lobster print of it is too cute. This dress runs super tiny (size up) but lace-up heels help elongate the legs even further. Of course, I went with white to make my tan pop!

I suppose a swimsuit isn’t really an “outfit” but it’s what I wore most of my days in Mexico as I hopped between the pool and beach. The rest of my suits are from another small, sustainable business called Svn Swim! The quality of these pieces is unreal. Tops and bottoms are sold separately here and I’m wearing a Small in both. Don’t forget to layer on some gold jewlery to make things interesting!
I had a few cover-ups I alternated between during my stay—I’ll link those as well since I don’t have photos in them.

I posted this maxi dress to my Instagram yesterday and you guys freaked out over it. This dress is crochet so you can wear it as a cover-up with a swimsuit peaking through, or you can dress it up for dinner. This piece has a thicker weft so as long as you have nude undergarments on with it, it’s not see-through.
How cute is the color blocking?! This is such a happy color palette for spring break. I have a discount code for Petal and Pup—use MCKENZ20 for 20% off your entire purchase. I’m tying the look together with a simple straw purse and matching heels. These Dolce Vita shoes are the perfect in-between heights—not quite a heel but a little taller than a sandal. Love!

I’ve never been a big purple girl but there was something about this suit just calling my name. This style suit is one of my favorites—a top with underwire, adjustable straps, and a sturdy clasp along the back gives you all the support you need for a day full of swimming but the basic design gives you a simple tan line. As for the bottoms, these are super cheeky but they’ve got no self-ties which means no chance of them falling off in the water—woohoo!

We had the cutest sunset picnic on the beach. It was a magical night full of champagne, good music, and lots of laughs. It definitely got chilly being right on the water so I was so happy I reached for linen pants. These are a lightweight cotton that’s breathable for eighty-degree temperatures but thick enough to keep you comfortable during the ocean breeze.
This specific pair is years old from Express but I’ve linked an identical pair for you to shop. Becuase these pants are high-waisted I opted for a mini balloon tank to balance it out. I have this in several colors and it’s the cutest. Perfect for a beach vacay but versatile enough to wear with a pair of leather pants and heels for a night out at the bars once you get home. Highly recommend slicking your hair back if you’re planning on doing a beach picnic—it gets quite windy (and humid).

Something about a good ole bandeau top makes me think of my very first bikini. It’s so hard to find a white swimsuit that isn’t see-through but to my surprise, this one was not. And despite the top having no pads, the material was still thick enough. These bottoms are their “mid” style but still show some cheek. Of course, I’m wearing that straw hat and my favorite straw sandals for a full day on the beach.

I feel like every vacation is supposed to have one night where you get all dolled up. I’ve been saving this satin yellow mini dress for the perfect occasion and today was the day! It’s got the cutest sinched cups and a lace-up back. I wore it with just a simple pair of straw shoes and a little purse to match. Nothing’s more effortless than a silk dress—let it speak for itself!

It was a short and sweet trip to Mexico but one full of good sun, food, and swimsuits! I’m off to Boston next where I’ll be bundled up and ready for the cold… stay tuned for more spring break outfit inspiration coming your way in late February. I’ve got a two-week trip to Florida in the books and am already itching to get back to saltwater and sand! More on that later…
With love, McKenz
