What To Wear In California In January

If I could only pick one state to visit, I’d choose California over and over again. From beautiful sunny beaches to vast National Parks to stunning mountains, California truly has it all. The best part is… there’s never a bad time to visit! There is however a ‘best time’ to visit which, in my opinion, is in the winter.

Yep, you read that right! California gets year-round sunshine and seventy-degree temperatures. Don’t get me wrong it’s certainly not bathing suit weather but almost every day in January feels like that first true spring day. With no humidity and temps cooling in the evenings, you still get to dress for “sweater weather” but you don’t have to bundle up for snow like the rest of the country, and that my friends is such a blessing.

Pops of Red

When in doubt, you’ll find me in a monochrome outfit! This cotton sweater from American Eagle is one of my all-time favorite purchases. The perfect weight for spring time and it goes with everything! Throw on a pair of straight legs in the same hue.

These pair so well with a pair of platform Adidas sneakers. Pops of red are so fun!

Surfer Girl

Can’t come to California without a pair of cargo pants. It’s what all the “cool” girls are wearing! These are the dreamy drapes from American Eagle. Come in tons of colors and have the perfect relaxed fit + linen-like feel!

Style with sneakers and a hat to keep things casual for every day.

On The Farm

Embracing my Miley Stewart roots with a day at the farm. The animals loved this wool sweater from Sezane. Looked so chic with a matching scarf and this was the perfect occasion for a rancher hat! Love my custom GigiPip one.

Coffee Shop Casual

Simple sweater and jeans make the perfect Sunday coffee shop outfit. These distressed jeans I wore all month long. On major sale from Hollister! Add a hat to make it to hair wash day!

Winery Visit

Nothing screams California quite like a day at the vineyard. So many stunning locations in San Luis Obispo. A sweater and maxi skirt is the perfect combo for this time of year. Super chic yet you’ll stay warm! Add pointed-toe boots and sunglasses to elevate the look.

Brunching

Never did get a great photo in this outfit but I wanted to share regardless. This lightweight quilted jacket was the perfect weight for a California winter. Loving the spring hues too! 

A San Diego Spring

I really just couldn’t get enough of platform sneakers and trucker hats… it’s what everyone’s wearing on a day-to-day in the South Bay. Can’t go wrong with cute & casual. A cropped sweater tee is perfect for those warmer days!

More Favorites 

Linking a bunch of other items I wore during my month-long stay. A lot of lounge, some workout wear, and a few going-out looks I just never took any photos in. 

Depending on what you’re doing during your stay, you may need a little bit of everything! I was limited to one suitcase so I definitely rewore a lot of these pieces so consider them “favorites”!
