Iceland has been a bucket list destination of mine for as long as I can remember and this week I finally checked it off! With its famous unpredictable weather, figuring out what to wear in Iceland can be a challenge. Whether you’re wandering along a black sand beach, exploring a waterfall, or relaxing in the steaming hot springs, I’ve got you covered with an outfit idea for every occasion.
For reference, I visited in March and Iceland was on the tail end of its winter. Temperatures crept into the low forties and many locals told us we were extremely lucky as the weather was the “best it had been in nearly six months“. We had partial sun and no wind or rain for four straight days. Music to my ears!
Layers, waterproof pieces, and a good pair of all-weather boots are all necessities on your Iceland packing list. Now onto the outfits.
How incredible is this jacket?! This pastel beauty was a recent Sezane find and it was the most incredible finishing touch to my Iceland suitcase. Floor length + wool lining were absolute lifesavers for our chilly days playing tourist. Of course, I opted for the pink and purple hues so this winter piece would scream a little more “spring“.
Iceland is 1000% a destination you need two pairs of pants in. Highly suggest a pair of stretchy, wide-leg jeans so that you can layer some leggings on underneath. My Uggs were also a must for days exploring the city.

Anything from Free People Movement is a good idea for your trip to Iceland. They have so many fun, sporty pieces that are perfect for hiking, biking, and sightseeing through the mountains. These are waterproof and wind-breaking so they were perfect with a pair of leggings underneath.
I wore this outfit on our Golden Circle day and I was so glad that I had these sherpa snow boots on. A lot of girls in our group wore hiking boots from Columbia, Eddie Bauer, etc— Iceland had just gotten tons of snow so snow boots were just fine. As long as you have something that will keep your feet dry you’ll be okay!

I cannot stress enough how much you need cold-weather accessories here. I was the perfect temperature every day when I had on a fuzzy hat or earmuffs, a scarf, and a pair of gloves. These sherpa mittens were so warm and made the cutest prop for my Instagram pictures.
Almost every tourist was wearing all black (as that tends to be what most adult warm clothes are available in) but I opted for bright leggings and fun accessories and I was so glad I did. It made my photos turn out super cute when we were posing outside of such dark backgrounds—volcanic rocks, black sand beaches, etc.
And please for the love of God bring more than one pair of leggings so you don’t have to wear the same “under” layer each day! I also swore by a fleece-lined long sleeve underneath my sweaters.

On our first day in Reykjavík, I went to the cutest store Mjuk where you can customize a hat! They had all kinds of wool, cashmere, and silk options. If you know you know, I get most of my clothes gifted and the one thing I always let myself buy guilt-free is a local hat. I had to snag one of these fleece-lined butter-yellow beanies. I went for a pink puff to match my jacket and had to get the scarf to match.
The quality of these pieces is absolutely incredible. If I didn’t live in Florida I’d have gotten two more!

If you go to Iceland chances are you’re headed to the Blue Lagoon at some point. This iconic landmark is just as cool as it looks. I had no idea what to expect prior to going and now that I’ve been let me spill all the secrets.
Highly suggest showing up in your bikini and wearing a loose comfy outfit over top. I wore a sweatsuit and cozy warm boots. They have lockers to leave your stuff in and they make you rinse off before and after entering the springs so I also suggest bringing some type of wet bag to leave your bathing suit in! Don’t forget to pack a bra and underwear for after.
They provide towels and there’s really no use bringing flip-flops because they make you take them off before entering anyways.

If you’re flying from the East Coast of the United States, Iceland is a pretty painless flight as far as Europe goes. In just 5.5 hours you’ll be greeted by freezing cold temps. I suggest wearing a warm sweatsuit of some type with a tee underneath. I wore Adidas throughout the airport because I felt I needed to bring a sneaker on this trip.
Truthfully, I never wore them once. It was chilly so I ended up wanting the warmth of my boots + something waterproof the rest of the days.
