Guide to Croatia

Croatia is what many consider the “hidden gem” of Europe. Nestled in the heart of the Adriatic Sea, this country is home to beautiful coastlines, delicious wine, and fascinating history.

They have delicious cuisine here with sea-to-table dining experiences. Meals include a wide variety of meats, cheeses, and heart stewes. Most restaurants have fresh seafood brought in daily. After all, the country’s coastline is dotted with over a thousand boats, serving as one of the most popular sailing destinations in the world.

Croatia is a melting pot of influences from its Mediterranean, Central European, and Balkan neighbors. It’s becuase of this that some cities like Dubrovnik and Split have a coastal, medieval feel to them. Get lost amidst the streets, have a shot at one of the local bars, and find a way to get on a boat at whatever cost it may take!

I can’t wait to revisit Croatia again this fall. I will be sailing with Navigare to several different destiantions and am thrilled to embark on this new adventure, experiencing all the hidden pockets that locals love! More to come…

TIPS & TRICKS

What to Expect

LANGUAGE:

The official language of Croatia is Croatian although English is very widely spoken.

SAFETY:

Overall Croatia is a very safe country full of solo tourists and young twenty-somethings. Although you’ll still need to keep an eye out for pick pocketers especially in main city centers like Split.

CREDIT CARDS/ATMS:

Cards are widely accepted in Croatia however small beach clubs and some restaurants operate as cash only. ATMs are widely accessible although I reccomend taking out currency beforehand to avoid foregin transaction fees.

CURRENCY:

The main currency in Croatia is the Coratian Kuna.
