Guide to Cruising

Ahoy mates! Wanting to plan a cruise? Cruising is one of my favorite ways to travel as it allows you to see several destinations without having to pack up and move. Just grab a fruity cocktail, sit back, and relax while you sail to your next port city.

While there are dozens of cruise lines to choose from, I've personally only used Virgin Voyages. This adults-only cruise line has incredible food, thoughtful employees, and beautiful destinations.

With over 20 restaurants and bars, department stores, a casino, live entertainment, and dozens of workout classes to choose from, it's hard to be bored while on board!

My latest cruising adventure was a 7-night Caribbean cruise with stops in Aruba, Curacao, Martinique, and Saint Kitts. With a day at each port, we were able to dip our toes into the culture experiencing a taste of what each one was all about. Between the fine white sand, crystal clear waters, and strong UVs I didn't want to leave these pristine beaches.

Of course, you can book excursions with the cruise line directly but don't be afraid to venture off the beaten path. We spent time sailing through the islands, cruising through local villages, and swimming with turtles.

It's safe to say cruising makes for an unforgettable vacation!

What I Packed:

LINENS: A must for Europe. Cotton will keep you coolest.

WALKING SHOES: All cobblestones & hills here. Pack something supportive.

DENIM JACKET: A spring visit will have brisk evenings! Bring a layer for sure.

LONG MAXIS: My fav when I’m taveling Europe.

Nothing better than being on the ocean.

Perfect way to get a "taste" of a new country!

TIPS & TRICKS

What to Expect

LANGUAGE:

All of the staff will speak English. Depending on where you port, most locals will know some English, but others do not. I suggest having Google Translate on hand to communicate as needed.

CREDIT CARDS/ATMS:

Cruises take all the safety precautions. You will go through Fire Escape training upon checking in. Each time you get back on the boat you'll go through metal ditectors.

SAFETY:

A lot of Caribbean destinations do NOT accept cards. In fact, I was shocked how many places required cash. I'd reccomend at least $500 cash for a week long cruise. ATMs are widely accessible.

CURRENCY:

Despite being in a new destination daily, everywhere I've cruised (Caribbean only) has accepted American dollars.
