Guide to Ohio

Home sweet home! I am a Kent State Alumni which means I spent three glorious years living just outside of Cleveland, Ohio.

I never thought I’d be a midwestern girl but I spent three years living in Ohio and loved (almost) every second of it. I graduated from Kent State University which is just outside of Cleveland, Ohio so I’m what I’d like to call an expert on the state!

Despite popular belief, Ohio has a lot more to offer than long, brutal winters. With over 50,000 lakes it’s a popular summer-house spot for many Mid-Westerners. Summers are warm and falls are lush with gorgeous foliage along local trails.

Cleveland is what I like to call the perfect “beginner’s city”. It’s not too big— you’re always three people away from knowing someone. There are tons of restaurants, a nightlife scene exciting to many twenty-somethings, and a large community of sports fans. If you have time to catch a game at Progressive Stadium you must go—the energy is unmatched!

Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton are all other popular cities, largely popular due to their many surrounding colleges.

I don’t miss the snow but there is so much I miss about my time in Ohio. I have lots of recommendations, especially from my college town Kent in various guides down below!

What I Packed for Ohio:

PARKA: Yep, that thick long puffy coat that goes all the way down to the knees.

SNOW BOOTS: I quickly learned life is much easier when you get a pair. You’ll stay much warmer and drier!

WINTER WEATHER ACCESSORIES: Hats, gloves, and scarves are all musts during the colder months.

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING: Ohio gets all four seasons so depending on when you visit you’ll want to pack accordingly.

Must go to an Indians game!

Cleveland is the best city for beginners

CLIMATE:

Like many Mid-Western states, the winters are dry, long, and extremely cold. Many major cities are located within the “Snow Belt” which means they experience lake-effect temperatures and frequent snow. They get all four seasons with beatiful springs, warm summers, and lush falls. Humidity is minimal here.

CREDIT CARDS/ATMS:

You can pay for everything with card here. Most places accept VISA, Discover, Mastercard and AMEX. ATMs are easily accesible.
