Guide to Spain

Spain is one of those countries that’s just bursting with culture, history, and natural beauty. It has diverse landscapes ranging from sun-kissed beaches to rugged mountains making it one of the most widely traveled countries in Europe!

It serves as a popular study-abroad destination so it’s bursting with young students and travelers. Whether you’re visiting the capital city Madrid or immersing yourself in all Barcelona has to offer, there’s so much to do and see here.

Cultural festivals, renowned night-life, and incredible local cuisine are all things that draw travelers in. You can’t leave before having a glass of sangria and eating a few “tapas” — small plates of food that allow you to sample several local dishes at once.

You could truly spend months exploring Spain and still have barely put a dent on all of its incredible hidden gems!

What I Packed for Spain:

JEANS- Unlike a lot of other European cities, this is one you can wear jeans in!

BIKINIS- If you’re visiting while it’s warm, chances are you’ll be taking a dip into the ocean!

A SCARF- If you’re coming to Barcelona in the fall be sure to pack a scarf.

CROSSBODY BAG- I find that some countries are tote bag countries and others are crossbody countries. This was one I was grateful to have a smaller bag in.

there is so much history packed into this city!

What to Expect

LANGUAGE:

Spanish is the official language of Spain. However, like many European countries, many people speak English as it is the universal language.

SAFETY:

Generally Spain is safe however major cities like Barcelona experience some crime and pickpocketing. As always be aware of your surroundings and belongings.

CREDIT CARDS/ATMS:

Cards are widely accpted in Spain. *Discover is not accepted in most European countries, VISA is typically the best option. It’s a good idea to have cash on hand for food trucks, markets, and local shopping. ATMs are available and easy to find, especially in major cities.

The currency in Spain is the Euro

HIGH SEASON:

June-August Low Season: January-March Many tourists travel to Spain during the summer so they can enjoy the water and coastal towns. I however, visited in November, and there was still plenty to do and see. Definitely a different vibe though and I’d love to see it live and in action during high season.
