The nineties were chock full of everything from chokers, to overalls, to mom jeans, to Birkenstocks and so on. The fashion was simple while still different from the other decades coming in first on my list of favorites (the seventies coming in a close second).
I’d like to say I was a ‘nineties baby’ but unfortunately, I missed the cut off by a couple of years, lol. However, that has not stopped my love for the nineties fashion revival from growing even bigger.
I am such a sucker for old school clothes. I love love love when designers bring back old trends and implement them into their current collections and such. Today I’m sharing a nineties inspired lookbook solely from clothes I already had in my closet. I was honestly shocked with the outfits I was able to come up with from the pieces that I have collected over time. I feel that really goes to show that the whole throwback collections have been pretty trendy and relevant for quite a while now.
Anyways, let’s get into the looks.
I read somewhere when doing a bit of research for this post, that Guess jeans were huge back then along with stripes and the classic tattoo choker. Luckily I had these pieces in my closet. I finished off the look with my black hightop Converse with my frilly socks peeking out the top for an easy, casual look.
Outfit Details- jean shorts: Guess/Thrifted, tee: Brandy Melville, choker: Amazon, sneakers: Converse, socks: Fransessca’s
For the next look, I opted to layer a black peplum tank over my go-to white tee. This is the perfect way to layer throughout the warmer months and spice up a simple look! I then threw on these two toned jeans from Gap that are so spunky and of course my black mules (not sure which decade these were popular in, though!). I love this look; it’s playful and new, yet still has that 90s feel to it.
Outfit Details- tee: TJ Maxx, tank: Old Navy, jeans: Gap, shoes: Target/Mossimo
My overalls are probably my favorite clothing piece in my wardrobe and were actually a gift from my dad to my mom years and years ago so they are by far true 90s style. I popped a super big white sweater on underneath and felt that my white converse would be the perfect pairing. I also threw on my pair of oversized, clear aviators for that fake glasses look. This is hands down my favorite look and would totally wear this now.
Outfit Details- sweater: Forever 21, overalls: Gap, sneakers: Converse, socks: Fransessca’s, glasses: Amazon
For the final outfit, I wore a simple black mock neck tee. I would’ve gone for a turtle neck since I know they were big back then but I’m trying to make these looks more suitable for the spring time. Anyways, the black tee paired so well with my Birkenstocks. I then threw in some space buns and my diy patchwork denim to complete the look. This look was so fun for me to style!
Outfit Details- tee: Aeropostale, jeans: DIY/Old Navy, shoes: TJ Maxx, scrunchies: Forever 21

I don’t know how you manage to pull off so many different looks! You look amazing in all of them but I think my fave is the dungarees (overalls). I really dig that 90s fashion has come back around, honestly xo
Thank you so so much, Kristen! I am so happy with how the outfits turned out bc I love 90s fashion so much! Have a fab day xx
Haha great post, girl! It’s so fun to branch out of the decade that we’re in xx.
Yes, that’s my fav! Have a great day, Kali ?
Ah yes it is! Thanks for reading, Kali?
Oh my gosh so cute!! Those patch jeans are adorable!!
They were so fun to make + they make me feel cool lol! Thanks for reading girly 🙂
So cute! The overalls and the oversized sweater is perfect, I never would have thought of that. Love the space buns as well! <3
I love this! The first and the fourth are my favorite 🙂 you pull off the 90s trends so well though!!
Aw, thank you so much! I adore the 90s fashion and was so excited to write this post.
YASSS this is such a fun theme to work around! Okay so I’ve been discretely loving overalls lately (shorts or skirt…not ready to bring back the pants yet lol) but I’ve been seeing so many people rocking them too and now with this post you make it look so cute that I feel much more eager to buy myself a pair! The last look is my absolute favorite though, I feel like I need to recreate that STAT! Also is that a map of the USA on the butt of the pants, because I need that as well!!!
xo, JJ
Hey, Jenny! I am seriously obsessed with overalls and have been ever since my mom pulled this pair out of storage. I seriously wear them all the time because they are so cute and fun!! And of course that is the map of the USA on my butt haha I bought the patch from Hobby Lobby!! Thanks for stopping by as always hun xx
Overalls were my jam! I even sewed a pair for myself out of blue corduroy. 😛
By the way, you have the BEST smile! Such radiance. <3
I love overalls too girly! I wish I was talented enough to sew a pair, especially out of corduroy. And thank you sooo much :))
I love LOVE this! I had no idea you were so young either, to me you look at least in your twenties! (I’m 15 as well but I still look 8). This is so cute, the nineties were such a great time for fashion and I totally love that the styles are coming back!
Aw really! I love meeting people my age so I gotta check out your site! And I love the nineties too girl!! Have a fab day xx
Oh that last look is my favorite. I love that 2-bunshairstyle, it just looks cute but not in a childish way! I’m from 1998 which makes me a nineties-baby, but of course, I don’t remember a thing! I actually love the nineties music a lot! Michael Jackson is one of my idols and I really love the songs he made in the nineties! Who’s your favorite nineties-artist?
Thanks so much hun; space buns are my go to for when I need a good second day hairstyle, lol! + I love my patchwork jeans. I honestly don’t listen to much ‘older’ music but I would have to say the early 90s BoDeans if I had to choose! They are my dads favorite 🙂
I haven’t heard of them actually. But I will see if I can find something on YouTube about them! It’s always nice to discover some new music!
Yes it is!!!
I’m obsessed with the last outfit!!
Thank you so much, Katrina 🙂
I love all of these outfits!!! Have you ever tried getting inspiration from movies like Clueless? 🙂
I thought about doing like a Clueless or Friends lookbook but need to pick up a few pieces! Would you like that?! And thank you xx
I think those are awesome ideas!!! I would love to see that. I am also excited to see your 70s looks! 🙂
Yay!! So happy to hear that ?
