Back in April, I embarked on a super awesome style challenge called the 10X10 where you style the same ten pieces of clothing into ten different outfits for ten days straight.
As someone who is constantly adding new pieces to their wardrobe and never styling the same piece of clothing the same way, this was a true challenge for me. Not in the sense that I wasn’t capable of styling the pieces of clothing but in the sense that I legitimately felt uncomfortable wearing the same few pieces despite nobody around being able to tell the difference. I learned a lot not only about myself but about my wardrobe in completing this challenge!
I also did a travel capsule wardrobe back in July where I showed how 15 pieces could be styled into thirty different outfit ideas.
I’ve been toying around with the idea of doing a winter capsule for a while and decided to do the 10X10 again to show you all that ten pieces of clothing is more than enough to create endless outfits. Plus, it’s always fun to mix things up a bit and to step outside your comfort zone. Although I’m not going to be doing this challenge for real this season (I’m still having fun styling some new pieces from the holidays!) I am going to be sharing the ten outfit ideas with you Friday, so stay tuned!
In today’s video, I’m sharing with you the ten pieces I chose to incorporate into my ten outfits and am going into detail about what the 10X10 Wardrobe Challenge is all about. Be sure to watch this before finishing off this post!
Here’s how I chose my ten pieces and as many links as possible.
- black turtleneck from Hollister –This is truly my biggest wardrobe essential. There’s nothing I feel chicer in than a fitted black turtleneck. This one layers perfectly and looks amazing on its own plus it’s super flattering.
- striped mock neck top from Old Navy – Mock necks are another one of my favorite necklines! When choosing my ten pieces I knew I wanted a bit of hunter green to be incorporated in, so this striped piece with the black accents was perfect.
- white flannel from Old Navy – This flannel from Old Navy has mustard, red, hunter green, black, and pops of blue in it making it a super versatile piece for this capsule! Plus, a flannel is most definitely needed for the winter months.
- black cardigan from Kohl’s – This trusty cardigan was with me when I did my spring 10X10. A classic cardigan that you can use for layering is exactly what you need when setting up your wardrobe.
- mustard mock neck sweater from Old Navy – There is nothing better than a chunky knit sweater. I adore this one and after receiving it for Christmas I have been dying to style it with some of my older clothes.
- faux fur vest from Old Navy – Hands down one of my favorite pieces of clothing I’ve ever owned and a very special gift from my Aunt Cath! This was the perfect piece of outerwear to add to this capsule. I think a vest is something every person needs in their wardrobe.
- black denim skirt from Forever 21 – Choosing a denim skirt is something that is almost more suitable for a fall capsule but I find myself needing something a bit dressier at times. This skirt is perfect for fancier events, with over the knee boots, or even with tights!
- medium wash jeans from Hollister – Obviously needed to include my most worn skinny jeans into the mix. I’m a denim wearer no matter what day it may be!
- mustard lace-up flats from Old Navy – A unique color is always necessary when choosing pieces for a capsule. It makes the outfits memorable and interesting. I feel like some people view a capsule wardrobe as confinement to boring, simple clothing but it doesn’t have to be that way! These shoes were the perfect pop of color.
- black over the knee boots from DSW – My staple for the winter no matter where I am! Over the knee boots are sleek, trendy, and can be dressed up or down super easily. I knew that these would be a must when choosing my ten pieces.
Would you ever consider minimizing your wardrobe to just ten pieces for ten days?! Let me know below, I’m curious to hear who would be up for it! Be sure to leave any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me below. See you all Friday for the ten outfit ideas! With love, McKenz
