Hair. It’s always been tricky for me and undoubtedly the most dreaded part of getting ready.
I have dirty blonde hair naturally that is very thin and rather frizzy. It hates humidity and gets extra wavy when it’s hot out. Some days its borderline curly and others it’s practically stick straight – it always depends on how it dries. I like to keep it long but it doesn’t grow past a certain length so I almost always cut it short.
I straighten or curl it most days that I plan on leaving the house and can survive on third-day hair as if it were my job.
Yep, you could say it’s a hot mess. However, this summer I’ve seemed to manage my natural hair a little better than most.
Between the Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Spray and a cute hair scarf, I’ve found the easiest way to embrace my natural hair this summer.
The scarves you see all of the influencers wearing in their hair this season are almost never marketed as ‘hair’ scarves they are just regular neck scarves that can easily be worn on your purse or in your hair if you so desire. I’ve gotten all of mine from Old Navy – they tend to have cute ones by the register or in their clearance sections.
Target, Madewell, and J Crew are all stores that would be worthwhile to check out. I’ve linked a few of my favorites that are the perfect accessory as we transition into the cooler months.
My typical haircare these past few weeks, especially while on vacation has been as follows. I begin by washing and conditioning my hair with the Suave Shampoo and Conditioner that is meant for color treated hair and is infused with Keratin. After towel drying it for a few minutes I comb my hair out and apply 5 squirts of the Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Spray into it. I then ‘scrunch’ the ends of my damp hair to create some waves in it.
I then allow it to air dry, going about my everyday routine. Once it is completely dry I like to go back in with the Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Spray and spray 5-10 more squirts. This adds volume, texture, and the most amazing smell to my hair. This does make your hair sort of dry as it is sea salt but that’s how it achieves the texture aspect. I scrunch my hair some more and run my hands through it until it looks the way I desire; the bigger the better (in my opinion)!
Now that my hair has some volume and texture, it’s more prone to look better when up.
There are two ways I like to wear a hair scarf. You can simply tie it in like a headband. For a trendy look, you can leave the knot at the top of your head or for something more simple, you can turn the knot so it’s facing the back of your head.
The other way I wear one is by throwing my hair into a messy pony on the top of my head. I pull out the front pieces to frame my face and then simply tie the scarf around it. I don’t always wear it high on my head, sometimes I wear it in a low pony or you can even tie it around a bun!
Not only are they a fun way to manage your mane, they can totally change an outfit around. I love wearing them as accessories or using them as a fun pop of color. Below is an outfit idea I think you’ll love.
This babydoll dress has been one of my favorites this summer. It’s super easy to throw on and go and is such a flattering fit. I wore some light pink sandals and a matching crossbody to pair with my super cute hair scarf. I’m obsessed as it was the perfect accessory!
