I can’t even lie, this is one of those blog posts I look forward to writing all year long. There’s something so special about looking back on the hundreds upon hundreds of outfits I’ve styled over the year and narrowing down what was the best of the best in my eyes. It took me forever to come up with this year’s batch but I think I’ve got the master list all figured out. So, in no particular order of #1-#19…. here’s what I’ve deemed the ‘top’ looks of 2019.
I have to admit, January 1st started off on a pretty good note. Celebrating my blog’s anniversary is one of the most rewarding days of the year and getting to do it in a dress this spectacular made it even more memorable. I loved this gold sequin dress from Shein; not only because of what it looked like because of how it made me feel! I could smile just thinking about this dress.

Honestly, when I look at this outfit it’s not the most spectacular of the year but it was definitely one of my most worn outfits of the colder months. I headed to NYC in February with my dad for a quick photoshoot with Dormify and this was what I wore into the city. Still relevant ten months later is this outfit combination— a statement jacket, black turtleneck, dark wash skinny jeans, and an animal print bootie! I’ve worn the heck out of all these pieces this year.
In February I had a wave of inspiration from other bloggers, especially Tezza who is always getting creative with her shots. Although, at this point, 50% of my photos were still in front of the garage door, I found myself getting more comfortable with the camera and experimenting with shots for Instagram. This white faux fur from Shein was one of my favorite coats this year. Flare jeans made a major comeback in my closet and these metallic Marc Fisher boots are still some of my favorites.

Something about this set I just adore every time I see it. I picked it up on a whim for a festival outfit ideas post and ended up loving on it big time! The eyelet lace is just so cute and with the ruffled hems I think this is the perfect look for the spring. The really sparked my love for two piece sets this season. I also got really into scarves like the one I have on here and these tassel earrings which were always on repeat!

Oh, this outfit idea… gosh I think it was maybe twenty degrees the day I dragged Madison outside to photograph me in this cute look. You can even see the leftover snow in the background, lol! I just love this outfit every time I see it. There’s something about a sweet little sundress like this green floral wrap one from Zaful. I paired it with, of course, some espadrille wedges and a floppy hat. Me and floppy hats go way back but they definitely had their moment in my wardrobe this year (especially beach ones!).

Jumping right into May when I got to wear this beauty! For my senior prom I wore this stunning two piece gown from Terani Couture. It was truly the most beautiful dress you’ve ever seen from the beaded bodice right down to the tulle train. I would wear this every single day if I could. Not only did it look beautiful on but it made me feel it as well. You can’t put a price on pieces like that.

At this point in the game, I started working as an Express partner and I discovered my new favorite store! I quickly realized how much I loved the store; their clothes for the twenty-something fit my style perfectly. I discovered their jeans are perfect for my body type and that their basics are unmatched. I absolutely adore this little red combo I wore to my freshman orientation at Kent State. An iconic choice (in my opinion) and of course, finished off with my white mules from DSW that were going three years strong at this point.
A simple outfit but one that had to be featured in this post, simply because I think I wore this bodysuit and shorts combination a gazillion times together this summer. I fell in love with bodysuits and cutoffs for that put together yet girl next door look all in one. These black Express espadrilles were on repeat constantly this summer and I also discovered the magic of belts. Once I started wearing them, I don’t think I ever went back.
Oh, the cherry set! You didn’t forget about this cutie did you?! I just adored two pieces this summer and anything with fruit on it, I had to have. There’s just something so happy about this set that I cannot help but love. There’s those white mules again and of course, my same gold accessories that have been in practically every one one of these outfits, lol.

It’s no secret I’ve gotten an abundance of clothing from Shein this year. A handful of duds, but mostly super cute pieces that served me so well! This romper was one of my favorite items from them this summer; the dress looking overlay and the tie back made this romper even cuter. I realized how much I loved a good Barbie pink when tan and I started reaching for these platforms more and more.
2019; the year McKenzie discovered her love for black denim!!!! And bodysuits!!! Say it louder, so everyone else can hear! Turns out I am a black denim girl, I just needed to find the right pair for me. Of course, Express delivered and I’ve probably worn this pair of jeans 300 times since this photo. There’s that red bosyuit from before in a different color and with those black espadrilles I wore so much. I also started to wear the heck out of camo.

Hear me out, with a tan this good, can you even look bad in anything you put on?! I think not! But seriously, this romper was a favorite— so much so, that I had it in three different colors. This romper ties various different ways but I loved rocking the plunging style in August to show off my tan! Everything about this romper is so good and I’m wearing it with my block heels, which although I haven’t mentioned until just now, were easily one of my most worn shoes of the year!

Almost didn’t include this guy in the mix since on the surface it looks like just a top and jeans but it’s not. I fell in love with this white off the shoulder, belle sleeved blouse from Dokotoo. It was just the prettiest top ever, especially for something like senior photos which I finally got taken! Although a simple combo, this was one I felt so beautiful in and was perfect for the occasion.

Had to throw this look in because of all the accessories. I’ve still yet to wear this romper out but I truly love this look. Once I received these straw shoes from Chinese Laundry, my love for this material took off. I wore these shoes, this sun hat, and this round tote like it was my job. Oh, and how could I forget mentioning the shell jewelry. I bought a billion shell accessories and wore them all at once no matter how many times my parent tried to tell me I was overdoing it. I still disagree and would wear this outfit right this second if acceptable.
We’re jumping right into full on fall looks. This outfit had to be on one of my favorites from the season. I worked with Chicwish on this post and fell in love with not only this poncho style sweater but the whole new atmosphere of shooting content at school. Over the knees will forever be my go-to shoes for elongating the legs and this cabby hat?! Forget it, I wore this thing every chance I could get when styling outfits. I’m a hat girl at heart.

The cowgirl in me also flourished this year. I’m still trying to figure out how to wear a cowboy hat for every day wear and am dying for cowgirl boots but those are tasks for 2020 McKenz to tackle. Everything about this look is stellar— from the cute fringe coat Romwe gifted me, to the wide leg Express jeans, to the western belt. I feel the need to go to a rodeo in this look asap. Absolutely iconic!

My inner ~punk~ rock girl came out towards the end of the year. No, do not ask me to name a single Rolling Stones song because I wouldn’t be able to answer; there, I said it! I’m a fake fan and am only wearing this shirt cause it’s adorable and my roommate let me borrow it for the purpose of this blog post! But come on, how cute are these cargo pants with my go-to black, “college” booties. Living with roommates has made me step out of my style comfort zone so much and I’m so happy about it.

Stockings! Tights! Whatever you want to call them, they have become a staple in my closet these last few months. Being a “Mid-West” gal will do that to you I guess, lol! I’ve learned I need to wear these when in Ohio and honestly, I love the way they complete any outfit. This dress that’s actually a romper was one of my favorite Shein pieces of the year. It looked adorable with a turtleneck layered underneath and something cheetah had to be in this post since I haven’t shut up about the print all year long. And the boots— the BEST shoes for dressing up or wearing out!
from How To Wear Animal Print With SheIn
Last, but certainly not least, this beauty from the other day. I just had to throw this guy into the mix, that’s how much I loved it. Although I’d still wear any of the outfits I was wearing this time last year, my style has evolved so much lately and I’ve gotten more comfortable with embracing my edgier side. These leather pants my mom chose for me and I just adored the way they looked with this graphic tee. It’s one of me (and my dad’s) favorites; I’ve loved on graphic tees big time this year. These white booties were a favorite and this clear bag that I just recently got will most deifneity be coming into 2020 with me. Oh, and sunglasses— I’ve become a huge fan this year too.

Agh, there is something just so fun about watching my style grow, evolve, and change over the years! These posts always remind me how grateful I am to be documenting my days on the Interent so I can look back and reflect! I’m so grateful for each of you who has been on this style journey with me and I cannot wait to see what fun and fashion 2020 will bring. Cheers for now!
With love, Mckenz
