I have seen so many college dorm room essentials posts that say “yes, you need a cozy comforter and twinkly lights!”. While yes, those things are great I wouldn’t really call those “essentials” + isn’t it obvious that you’ll need basic things like bedding for your college dorm room? I think yes.
Which is why today I have compiled a list of things I brought to college and couldn’t have lived without. These items are things that many kids overlook when shopping for their dorm room but made all the difference my freshman year of college. Not everything I had my freshman year is still in stock but I did my best to link similar versions of those items below!
Throughout this video I’m discussing my top college dorm room essentials that made all the difference my freshman year at Kent State. For college content every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday be sure to hit the subscribe button

There are definitely other items that I loved and used throughout the year that I didn’t mention throughout this post. If you want to check out my full freshman year dorm tour you can click here to watch. I will be uploading college content three times a week so I will be covering other favorites and items to bring in the coming weeks. I hope you found this post helpful!

This is a great list! I LOVE those Ikea bags, they were definitely such a lifesaver when moving in freshman year (and moving out in a rush this year!). I brought a fan freshman year and thank goodness I did because my roommate, like you, HAD to have it on when we slept. It became such a joke between us! I also brought a Brita – thank goodness – and my parents got me a husband pillow after my first week of college. It’s so necessary for studying and doing homework.
