I totally meant to get this blog post up yesterday and then an IKEA room makeover collaboration turned into an all-day extravaganza, so here I am, coming at you on a Tuesday! Lately, my DM’s have been flooded with messages from you all requesting business casual outfit ideas. And while I’ve never actually worked in an office setting, I figured I’d take a stab at putting together a few outfit ideas for all of you ladies who do.
Keep in mind that the term “business casual” is used very loosely and every work setting has a different dress code. With that being said, some of these outfits may need to be tweaked a bit to work for you—nonetheless, I hope this gives you a little outfit inspiration for those mornings where nothing seems to look good on.
I don’t think anyone could have predicted sweater vests coming back in style but here we are. I swore this was one bandwagon I wouldn’t hop on and yet here I am, racking up quite the collection. I just recently grabbed this gray one from SheIn and it’s by far my favorite. The key to making sweater vests look chic rather than stuffy is reaching for one that’s a little oversized and has a slit along the sides. That high-low detail makes layering so much easier and keeps things classy in the office.
I layered a white button-up underneath my sweater vest. This too is from SheIn and it’s one of my favorite business-casual staples. I have it in black too and reach for it often—the perfect piece for layering or on its own. I cuffed the sleeves and threw on a few gold bracelets + my everyday watch. Don’t forget a few necklaces to pull the look together. Simple accessories can take your outfit a long way!
I know denim is a no-go in some work environments but it’s becoming more and more acceptable most places. If you’re allowed to wear them, I recommend pairing this top + sweater combo with a pair of black skinny jeans. I cuffed mine once and then popped on a gray heeled bootie. I always appreciate a little extra height as it makes me feel “in charge”, however, a pair of flat mules would work well with this too!

Chocolate brown is also making a comeback this season. It’s another trend I didn’t expect to love but here we are… If you’ve been searching for the perfect business casual pants, look no further. These pleather pants from SheIn are incredible! I have them in three out of the six colors now because the quality of them is just that good.
They’ve got a high waist, paper bag fit that’s incredibly comfortable and are just the right length to wear with heels, mules, or even booties. I’m on the shorter side so if you’re taller these will be more of an ankle fit which is too cute! These pants look so professional and yet the leather will leave you looking so trendy.
I felt like the chocolate brown bottoms really spoke for themselves so I kept the rest of my outfit rather simple, tucking a white mock-neck top into my bottoms and slipping into a pair of matching mules. If your office is a bit chillier you could totally layer on a cardigan or even a cute blazer over top! Don’t forget a fun pair of statement earrings to draw some attention to your face.

I’m convinced that a good button-up top and jeans are the most effortless outfit combination in the book. I mentioned earlier that I have a few favorites from SheIn and this one is a recent addition. This champagne colored top has a metallic sheen to it that’s so fun—officewear doesn’t have to be boring!
These tops have a super relaxed fit so giving them a french-tuck in the front is a must. Similar to that first look I paired mine with black skinny jeans. This top is long enough to cover your booty so you’re all good in that department too. However, the best part of this look is by far the shoes! I just recently received these two-toned booties and they are a dream. Not only are they the perfect heel height for everyday wear but the mix of neutrals allows these to pair with just about anything.

I forgot to mention these looks would also work perfectly for your next internship! I am currently trying to gather up enough pieces to create twenty different outfits for a huge winter business casual lookbook. I’ve got a few more pieces to find but I promise it’s in the works. In the meantime, I hope these outfits were a start!
With love, McKenz
