Unfortunately, it’s that time of year where you simply cannot leave the house without a jacket or else you’ll freeze to death. Because I go to school in the Midwest, I’ve racked up quite the jacket collection… Today I’m breaking down my top four favorites and sharing how to style them this winter.
Don’t get me wrong, while I do love these ones (and reach for them most often), I’m constantly adding new pieces to my closet. If you’re interested in seeing more winter weather fits, make sure you’re following me on Instagram @styledbymckenz. In the meantime, let’s hop right in.
Remember when Emma Chamberlain made teddy coats all the rage a few years back? Well, this coat right here is quickly becoming the new teddy coat. I’ve been seeing these everywhere recently but snagged mine for under $25 from SheIn! It’s available in four colors but I grabbed it in ivory for a bright winter white!
To be honest, I’ve been wearing this coat most often. Not only because it’s trendy but because it goes down to my knees, keeping the back half of me extra warm. Rather than the usual teddy material this has a different texture to it, almost like a sherpa but not quite. Regardless, I’m a big fan! Plus, it’s super oversized which is ideal for layering chunky sweaters underneath.
Although I do enjoy popping it over sweatpants for a chic look or my usual going-to-class fit, this is my go-to for an afternoon downtown. Whenever I don’t know what to wear I go for an all-black outfit. Regardless of the occasion, you can never go wrong. A simple black ribbed sweater will do. Skinny jeans are still a staple in my closet, especially with boots that come up a little higher. These suede boots have a sherpa lining that’s extra warm. They are my most expensive shoes but man are they nice.
Of course, I had to accessorize with a felt hat. I love that these match the boots to pull some color into the outfit. My black bag is from Polene and can be worn across the chest or on the crook of your arm.

I’ve had several puffer coats over the years because lets be real, they never truly go out of style. However, this year I grabbed a leather version and have been wearing it left and right. I don’t consider myself an overly “edgy” girl but when I’m wanting to switch things up, this jacket does just the trick.
It runs on the shorter side for more of a cropped moment and has just enough puff to it. It works much better with long sleeves and light sweaters underneath so if you’re wanting to layer up for warmth, I’d recommend sizing up one.
Straight-leg jeans and sneakers have been my go-to outfit recently. They are a never-fail combo that’s perfect for whatever the day may have in store. Don’t forget to accessorize with a crossbody purse, cat-eye sunnies, and a few layered gold necklaces to really take this outfit to the next level.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know the last jacket was leather too but there’s something very different about a leather puffer and a leather jacket. I’m not a huge fan of the typical black leather jacket as it doesn’t fit my usual outfit vibe all that well, however, this ivory one definitely does! It’s got a boxy, oversized fit and is lightly lined with faux fur to give it a cozy feel. I’ve worn this several times over the last few weeks and whether it’s with a sweater and boots or something comfy like I have on, it makes every outfit look 10x chicer.
Here I am again in a black-on-black combo! However, this time around I’m reaching for a pair of black leggings rather than jeans. I find them to be the most comfortable with these Steve Madden combat boots. Plus, with a leather jacket and a beanie, you look as cute as ever.
No need for an extravagant outfit to still look stylish! This would be perfect for a day of errands or holiday shopping.

I’ve had this knee-length camel dress coat in my closet for years now and I still wear it non-stop. This type of coat is perfect for a fancier occasion. Anytime I need to look a little more polished + put together I reach for this. Church, job interviews, museums, any event of the sort. I have a black, gray, and camel and keep them in rotation.
They are knee-length to keep you a little extra warmth and are fitted throughout the shoulders/chest area. For this reason, they are not great pieces for chunky layers. However, you keep your shape when wearing one of these and for that reason, I’m a big fan.
I especially love this coat when wearing a dress in the winter. This sweater dress is another Fashion Nova find and I have it in several colors as well. There are endless ways to dress this piece up or down. Of course, I’m keeping things simple and letting my new platform boots speak for themselves.
These sock boots are from Steve Madden and have the biggest heel you’ve ever seen. I’m not going to lie, they definitely draw some attention but they give me all the confidence in the world which is truly all I could ever ask for. They run true to size for reference. I’m wearing the same Polene purse as a crossbody this time around to accentuate my figure! Add tights if you’re in a chillier climate/need to cover more of your legs.

I’ve got dozens of other jackets in my closet just waiting for their time to shine. Perhaps I can do part two of this blog post so you can check them out as well. However, these are without a doubt my most worn coats/ones that have been on repeat as of the last few weeks! Linking everything above for you to shop. Talk soon!
With love, McKenz
