It is without a doubt, no secret that I have a lot of clothes; well, at least more than the average person per say. A friend recently asked me why I never wear the same thing twice. I laughed because I actually do wear a majority of my clothes, just never paired the same way. Styling clothes and creating outfit combos has always come rather easy to me, however, I have never felt the need to limit myself in terms of how many clothes i aquire. Despite this, I have always toyed with the idea of creating a capsule wardrobe; they are just so cool! The reason for never following through with it- I can’t! I simply cannot imagine spending a whole season in the same few pieces day after day. Not because it would be hard, but for the sole fact that I enjoy variety not only in my outfits but in the pieces I wear as well.
So after much thought, I have decided to create a temporary ‘capsule wardrobe’ and participate in the 10X10 Wardrobe Challenge. Check out these two ladies blogs (Un-Fancy and Stylebee) to see how they created the challenge.
In other words, for the next ten days, I will be styling the same ten pieces into ten different outfits!
If I’m being completely honest, the only reason I am doing this is to challenge myself because right now I am totally not a ‘less is more’ kind of a girl when it comes to my closet. And of course to show others that you can wear the same pieces over and over without ever repeating the same outfit.
Step 1- The first step for me was to look at the weather. Mostly, because the weather obviously plays a great deal into what I wear each day. The forecast looks about 65-75 degrees for the majority of the ten days staying sunny most days. There are a few scattered thunderstorms expected but I’m keeping my fingers crossed it doesn’t hold true because I couldn’t afford a pair of rain boots in my ten items!
Step 2- Choose your ten items and remember that accessories do NOT count towards your ten items. However, do not be afraid to stray from your ten pieces if need be. There are no set ‘rules’ for the challenge.
Step 3- Experiment with your ten pieces and choose outfits that are a bit out of your comfort zones. I tried my hardest not to wear any piece more than four times (excluding shoes, of course) to ensure that I get creative with my choosings.
Step 4- Share your outfits! I have decided to share my outfits each day around noon + of course in Sunday’s Weekly Wrap Up, so stay tuned for lots of content coming your way over the next couple of weeks!
Keeping the weather in mind + sticking to a rather cohesive color scheme I opted for…
Distressed denim bf jeans (similar), White skinny jeans, Button front skirt (similar), Black dress (similar), Striped peplum tank, Solid white tee, Solid blush tee, Denim jacket (similar), White Vans, Black block heels
Well, those are my ten picks for the next ten days. I have already planned out my ten outfits and am looking forward to sharing them all with you. Feel free to tag along and join me in this challenge. I am super excited to see if I can follow through with this challenge + how it will change my mindset on my wardrobe.
Have you ever tried a capsule wardrobe; if so were you successful?! Let me know in the comments below, along with nay other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. I’ll see you in a few hours, for my first outfit! Wishing you all the best day. With love, McKenz.
