January 2018 Favorites

It’s officially time for the first monthly favorites post of the year; woohoo! I am so excited to be here breaking down this month’s favorites with you. From the fashion to the makeup, to the music, this month has been full of fresh new things and full of reminiscing about the old. Get ready because this is going to be a long one; let’s do it!

Style

As far as fashion goes, January is always a super banging month for me; hence the reason for six outfit favorites! The deals are always crazy good right after the holidays, not to mention my closet is typically overflowing with Christmas goodies. Therefore, it’s rare I find myself in a style rut around this time of year. My first favorite of the month is most definitely beanies! I received a couple for Christmas and cannot stop wearing them. They are the perfect way to make an outfit instantly cuter and obviously are super practical for the chillier days + when you haven’t washed your hair in a handful of days. For footwear I’ve been wearing these two-inch block heeled booties from Old Navy; they have quickly become an essential for me when I don’t feel like wearing my over the knees. I’ve also been on a sneaker kick recently and cannot stop wearing my new blush pink New Balance sneakers. They are so comfy and are the perfect athleisure shoe. I have of course been on my turtleneck jam this month too and have worn my pink coat from Old Navy like it is my job. I seriously cannot get over how beautiful this coat is. I never want to take it off!

Beauty

I’ve been keeping things simple this month with my everyday makeup routine and have for the most part only been playing around with my lip color! I received a handful of new products for Christmas and have loved playing around with them. A few more Buxom Lipcreams, NYX Lingerie Lipsticks, and the Burts Bees Lipbalm were right up my alley. My only other fav this month in terms of beauty is the Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo. This stuff has been saving my lazy self’s hair way too much this month!

Faith

I finally got back on my Bible reading grind and I have to say I’m super excited about it! I started and finished Song of Songs this month and I loved the longer narratives from different perspectives. It was super eye-opening and provided some amazing advice as to how a man and woman should treat one another. Although I’ve already read a few specific chapters from Isaiah, I’ve never read the whole thing; therefore, this month I’m going to be starting Isaiah from the beginning!

Entertainment

Spent the month binge-watching a whole assortment of shows. I began by finishing The Carrie Diaries which is one of my favorite Netflix shows ever; I love the whole atmosphere of her working at a magazine! I also watched The Bold Type on Freeform and started watching Jane By Design again. As you can tell I’ve really been in the mood to watch some empowering, girl boss, fashion inspired tv lately. I’ve been loving it! As far as music goes, I’ve been listening to a lot of Mumford and Sons—their music on max volume is simply incredible.

Looking Ahead/Goals

In December I left myself with rather vague goals, simply because I was really looking forward to setting my 2018 goals in a separate blog post. I did however, accomplish awesome things as far as Instagram goes, set up a couple of collaborations, and almost reached 1,900 followers here on the blog (if you’re not subscribed via email or are following me on WordPress, be sure to do so!) In February I’m looking forward to working with a couple awesome brands, hopefully gaining a few more WordPress followers, sticking to my posting schedule (I was super good about that this month!), and hitting 2,900 followers on Instagram. I’m so excited to begin checking things off of my yearly goal sheet and start moving forward with the blog.

Life

This was such an awesome month for me! I began the year, so excited for a clean slate, really trying to better specific habits, and setting huge goals for myself; not to mention, celebrating two years of StyledbyMcKenz! I shot some looks I am super proud of for the blog, enjoyed a couple of snow days, and cheered a bunch for basketball. Just this past weekend I also was able to travel to New York City with Madison’s boyfriend’s family and had a blast; I hope February brings a fun spontaneous adventure too!

Anyway, that’s all for January. I’d say it was a pretty awesome month to kick off the New Year. What fun things did you do this month and what have you been loving?!
