5 Ways To Wear Puffer Vests This Winter

One of my core memories as a child involved going to the store with my dad each Mother’s Day to pick out a new puffer vest for my mom. She loved them—practically lived in them, wearing them with quite literally everything. 

I followed close by, filling her shoes in no time. By high school, I had every type of vest you can imagine—fur, cargo, puffer you name it. The best part is you can scroll through my archives to see all of those old outfits, lol. Anywho, I’ve been sharing my silly little outfits to my corner of the internet for so long now that they are back in style. 

Puffers have been dominating my for you page on Tik Tok recently so, of course, I’ve hopped on the bandwagon and grabbed a few for myself. Today I’m sharing my favorite ways to layer up with them to help combat the chilly temperatures Ohio can’t seem to shake. 

COMFY CASUAL

I’m starting off with my go-to weekend outfit. I still like to get dressed on the weekends but truthfully, I usually don’t have a whole lot going on. For that reason yoga pants + a hoodie are perfect. I always start with a monochrome base and go from there.

I then layer a white hoodie over top and slip into a pair of sneakers to match. I’m adding a slight pop of color in by tossing on a light gray puffer. These add so much warmth + really tie the outfit together. Don’t forget to layer up on some jewelry to achieve that “cool girl” effect.

ALL BUNDLED UP

I *sadly* have in-person classes this semester which means Tuesdays and Thursdays I have to bundle up for the chilly walk to class. I especially love this puffer because it’s much more oversized than the rest with a boxy fit throughout the shoulders that allow for several chunky layers underneath.

This white turtleneck is one of my favs + is long enough to toss on with a pair of leggings. I love these Steve Madden boots and they pair best with leggings which is a double win. To complete the look, I’m tossing on a scarf to match my boots.

STREET STYLE FUN

Although I do tend to wear my puffers most often with loungewear, they also work well with your everyday jeans fit too. I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about these Express jeans by now. They’ve been on major repeat lately because they are just that good!

I’m keeping things casual with a white long sleeve bodysuit. This is from the Express Body Contour line and I reach for it all the time. I’m slipping into white sneakers to match and giving this simple combo a street style vibe by tossing on my fanny pack + puffer vest to match.

LIGHT LAYERS

I figured I’d throw in another jeans look for ya! These black straight legs are another favorite. They are wide enough along the bottom that you can easily pair them with chunky boots. I love these for the wintertime + they have the perfect heel height to give you a little lift.

As for the rest of the fit, I’m layering up— starting in a black long sleeve, then tossing on my favorite flannel, then a puffer vest to coordinate with my shoes. Grab a bag and you’re good to go!

POPS OF COLOR

As much as I love my neutrals, I sure do love a pop of color too. This bright kelly green has been my favorite as of recently and I can’t seem to stop picking up new pieces in it. Again, keeping things casual with a puffer layered over top of my hoodie.

Yoga pants have been my bottoms of choice as of recently. These Steve Madden sneakers with the matching green stripe pull this outfit together in no time.
